I have heard team members say that they’ve worked network marketing for a long time, so they won’t need their hand held. That is usually the last time I ever hear from them. They do not attend training calls, because with all their “experience,” there is nothing they need to learn.
Ha! These are the same people who, after a couple weeks, maybe a couple months, quit, having made no sales whatsoever.
Everyone needs training! After over a year with my company, I still attend virtually every corporate call offered by my company, and I host training calls for my team. What is great is that I learn as much as they do on the team calls! Everyone has something to offer, so although I always provide a topic training presentation, I also have a sharing and Q&A with each call.
I am fortunate to have a large team. I’ve worked hard to grow my team, but I realize that I am fortunate to have so many people working with me, with some real stars among them. I am no longer surprised that only a fraction of the team members attend our training calls - about the same fraction that is working their business. What a coincidence.
I do not offer hand holding, nor do I chase down team members who are not staying in contact with me. I make myself available to everyone for one-on-one training and host my team calls, but I don’t have time to call those who are doing nothing to try to motivate them to work. I call each new team member upon enrollment, and I send out a “start-up” email to each new team member when they first join, providing them with my contact information, encouraging them to stay in touch with me and giving them basic steps to start their business. Everyone on my team also receives weekly email invitations to our calls.
I believe training, both one-on-one and conference calls, is vital to a network marketers success. Every company is different and the same methods of marketing do not necessarily work for every company. So, those who worked with other companies still need to be trained for any new business they join.
I also "love" those who say they had a team of xxxx with Y Company, earning top dollars. OK, why did they leave that company if they were doing so well? My team members know my motto, “Don’t tell me; show me.”
I really enjoy training team members and watching them grow their businesses. It thrills me to see team members excel. Without exception, those that become stars attend nearly every training call available. So, I say again, everyone needs training!

 | | I also am one that attends all training that's available! No one knows everything. If I'm not learning something new every day then I'm not growing. Great post, Julie!! Sending out to the masses! |
| | | | | From your comments, I can tell that each of you appreciate training, and therefore, you're growing a successful business. |
| | | | | This was so awesome and needed to be said! It's true, we all need to continue to learn and grow and prosper-when we become "Know~it~alls" is when we begin to fail at our business. Thanks for sharing |
| | | | | I agree. I've learned a lot from others (the good and the bad) since I went from being someone's employee to being the business owner. |
| | | | | Yes, training is important no matter who you are..we find the same! |
| | | | | I agree Tim. I've been with my company longer than almost anyone, but I am constantly learning and growing from training. Thanks for your feedback. |
| | | | | Excellent post Julie. Not only you need training, but it does not matter how long a person has been with a company, you must always attend most calls and meetings to keep the moral up to win! Great blog I must share:) |
