Gratitude At Thanksgiving

Happy Thanksgiving To One And All!

That being said, this blog is not about any promotion …. It is merely a short and personal reflection on this day and its relevance to me.

Thanksgiving is supposed to have generated between Pilgrims and Native Americans joining together to bond over shared dishes at a ‘family feast’.  I have heard numerous comments regarding this, especially in view of the events transpiring between Native Americans and ‘corporate’ America.  Looking throughout history, it would more appear like a meticulously laid-out plan to deprive the land’s inhabitants (Native Americans) of anything and everything.

Yes, I am well aware this is over-generalized … but in the long run, too much rings true not only in this particular instance but how we often treat each other as well.

Because I am involved in online marketing and have websites/blogs/social media dedicated to the ultimate end of helping others with their needs and gaining financial freedom for myself.  I love helping others and have been that way all through life.  Something I am totally against is the black hat manner many use to milk others of their monies in exchange for nothing of any real merit.

This day marks the last day my baby sister was full of life.  Having spent over 3 years back and forth between hospital and rehabilitation centers …. it had finally seemed to come to an end.  A simple and overlooked test held the secret to why her blood did not regenerate every 3 months and subsequently led to her heart stopping every 3 months.   A head doctor on her case and myself talked until almost 5 a.m. discussing all aspects of her treatment and I mentioned an ‘enzyme’ or something like it that was crucial to blood regeneration and had something to do with kidneys.  You see, my sister’s kidneys and liver were already ravaged by other various conditions.  He was amazed that a simple test had not been taken …. Voila!  The apparent answer to the mystery; all were ecstatic.  A simple shot/medical treatment monthly seemed to work immediately and a proposed final date of release was set in time for upcoming Xmas; however Thanksgiving had to be held in the rehabilitation center.

My baby sister LOVED holidays and especially the fantastic desserts, etc. associated with Thanksgiving.  We snuck in sweet potato pie, pumpkin pie, whipped cream, cranberry sauce, etc.  It was both a celebration of Thanksgiving, but of our gratitude and joy about her coming home ‘for good’.  So much laughter, hugging, etc on that special day ….

I got a call at work the following day …. She apparently choked while eating and while passing out fell hard knocking over the weighty table holding her tray and hitting full force on the ground.  She had three large lumps on the side/top/back of her head.  It took a full half hour of CPR to sustain her until an ambulance finally arrived.  My baby sister was in a terminal coma, there was no brain activity remaining other than basic stem activity … and even that was ‘sketchy’.  Withing two weeks of Xmas, I had to release her from her ‘bondage’…..a solemn promise we had both made with each other …. Neither of us wanted to be left as a living vegetable.  May none of you ever have to go through this ….

Enough of background……this blog is not about the events that tragically took my baby sister.

This is about gratitude…..I am grateful that her final ‘day’ was full of love, joy, laughter, hugs, good food……happiness and peace.  I am grateful that she did not suffer …. She was going to be basically bed-ridden had she made it home.  She and I were going to get into online ventures as a team, this gave here great hope and purpose … we were determined that bed-ridden was not going to be a life-long ‘sentence’ to be endured.  It was going to give her the best possible place to ‘focus’ and be creative for our online ventures.

After …. Well naturally I have been in a long depression …. Many online activities came to almost a complete halt.  About 2 months ago, it was as if she was ‘there’ …. I had to get back into getting busy online and fulfill our dreams, it was wrong and almost selfish of me to be on such a self-serving pity pot and not taking any action at all.  Her death should NOT be my poor excuse for not doing anything….depression or not.  When my Mom died, my father holed up in their room for six months….the same ‘talk’ I had with him rang in my memory loud and clear….how could I win an argument with myself?

Gratitude……not given the importance it has in our daily lives, in our basic existence with each other on this planet.  Be grateful for everything, good or bad, because valuable life lessons are in both.  Those friends and family you have and see?  When is the last time you truly let them know just how much they mean to you?  Those people you pass by each and every day?  Do you acknowledge them as a unique human being….just like YOU are special and unique?  Those things and functions you dread?  Would you prefer there was nothing?  Smile and say hello/have a good day/etc. to people you pass by.

Even a simple smile carries a lot of psychological benefits; there are numerous studies to support this.  Be grateful for everything; it could always disappear forever and is a life of regrets what you aspire to?  I don’t think so!

I am grateful for each and every one here, you are each a unique and special creation that needs to be acknowledged, seen and heard.  Let’s not be part of the problem with humanity, let’s be part of the solution!

Happy Thanksgiving Day!
