"Live free and beauty surrounds you
The world still astounds you
Each time you look at a star"
Lyrics from the song "Born Free" by songwriters John Barry & Don Black
Live Free should have been my original name. I am quite a restless soul who daydreams often about the Universe and all the things I want to accomplish, how quickly, and how I might spend the rest of my life in celebration thereof. Frankly, I am over dancing to the beat of someone else’s drum and want to do something extraordinary with my life. I want to live free and am to discover and enjoy the beauty that surrounds me each time I look at the stars.
Where do I begin? I begin where I am right now, identifying five (5) components which are critical to my own freedom namely: 1) introspection, 2) imagination, 3) integrity, 4) industry and 5) intelligence.
It is vital that I focus on ME first, i.e. what/where I want to do/be, how I propose getting there, what I can/not control, how to think/feel about myself and decisions, and the impact on my life and loved ones both in the short and long term. Self-value - knowledge of self while remaining detached from outside influences, be they people, things or environment; and self-control - acquiring optimal discernment and communications skills to anticipate and manage toxic encounters afford me opportunities not only to be open and confident but live free of negative, harmful, even sometimes violent experiences, while family, friends and mentors provide the much-needed balance.
It became apparent early on that my spiritual gifts include problem resolution, motivation, inspiration, cultivation and general goodwill ambassador. This self-awareness gives me the freedom to think outside-the-box, to rid my mind of all the things I was told I had to do to be successful and to make decisions that went against the grain of conventional thought and behaviors. As a little island girl, I was never a follower by any stretch, but more a contrarian who questioned and was curious about everything. I battled with two brothers I was sandwiched between just to keep my place at the table as it were. If they could do it, well so would I. These early childhood experiences helped to shape my live free thinking.
Having common-sense values of right versus wrong can make the difference between life and death, both personally and professionally. I am a strong advocate for speaking truth to power. I posit that telling untruths is a defensive act uttered to cause harm, deception or destruction which essentially confines freedom of thought and spirit. Self-truth constitutes stripping down these proverbial barriers thus exposing personal vulnerabilities, forcing one to accept personal flaws and limitations. Being honest allows me to preserve relationships, build trust, and live free to make my own judgments without fear of contradiction or duplicity.
When I was about eight years old, my two older sisters received new outfits every year for Christmas and their dresses from the previous year were usually passed down to me. Don’t get me wrong, I got two whole dresses but the sting of handed-down dresses resonated loudly. I vowed that day to work hard to be able to purchase anything I wanted and not worry about anyone doing so for me. Today, self-determination is the engine that drives me to acquire the requisite knowledge and skills I need to reach and exceed my expectations. I do not allow lack to determine providence. I learned to use money wisely, thoughtfully, carefully and where there was little, planned and saved until I was able so to do. The live free mantra reigns supreme.
No one is an island unto her/himself, therefore, connecting with compatible experts both off and online became a priority. Hence, the use of available technology provides me considerable agility to connect successfully with like-minded IBOs and marketers in real time. The collaboration of skills, services and products with my colleagues removes unwanted pressure to master everything and opens the way for me to experience and achieve self-fulfillment. Personally, I believe the live free model is setting and successfully achieving realistic goals one can be very happy with and proud of.
Learning how to live your best life requires some degree of personal introspection, imagination, integrity, industry and intelligence. Perhaps where YOU are right now is the best place for a new beginning.
