You Have A Friend In Christ!

Chapter Five

Never Separated From

Christ Jesus is our Savior, Friend, Brother, and Lord. He is always with us in everything and will never forsake us or our hope. In times of distress you can always depend and count on His glorious presence.

Bread of Life

Can anything ever separate us from Christ’s love? Does it mean he no longer loves us if we have trouble or calamity, or are persecuted, or are hungry, or cold, or in danger, or threatened with death? (Even the scriptures say “for your sake we are killed every day; we are being slaughtered like sheep.”) No, despite all these things, Overwhelming victory is ours through Christ, who has loved us. And I am convinced that nothing can ever separate us from his love. Death can’t, and life can’t. The angels can’t, and demons can’t. Our fears about today, our worries about tomorrow, and even the powers of hell can’t keep God’s love away. Whether we are above the sky, or in the deepest oceans, nothing in all creation will be able to separate us from the love of God that is revealed in Christ Jesus our Lord. Romans 8:35-38 (NLT)

Growing Separate From My Mother

Whoever made up the name “controlled substance” hit it right on the nail. My mom was slowly distancing herself from my sisters and me more and more every day. I don’t know if she knew it or not, but we all could tell that her focus was on something other than us. Even though my family had it hard when we were growing up, one thing that had stayed consistent was my mom showing us plenty of love, discipline, and attention. That began to change. Whatever was in the bathroom was now more important to her than us and it controlled her time. She started having strange men and women come around who smelled horrible. Whenever her company came over she made my sisters and me go outside and told us to go play over our friends’ homes. We already struggled to make it through the month with something to eat. Now that she was using crack it was becoming more difficult and unbearable for my sisters and me. We stopped going to the movies and out to eat. She started telling us that she didn’t have any extra money to give us. I began to even appreciate going to school. This was not because I wanted to learn, but because I knew I would have two guaranteed meals that day—breakfast and lunch. Each day the issues grew worse. Eventually my mom hardly even came out of her room, and if she did, it was only for a few moments to open the door for her friends.

I didn’t learn until late one night when I was awakened by flashing lights and police officers that I was living in a crack house. The police took my sisters and me to my grandmother’s house and took my mom and her friends to jail. At that time, I had never been away from my mom in my twelve years of life. Now we would be separated for a little over a year.

Jesus Is With You

Jesus is with you and you are forever in His care, Whether your situation is calm or in times that you must be aware.

Jesus is your strength, your foundation, and also your shield,

He is the farmer that picks the worries and rocks from our fields.

We are never separate from His love and kindness,

In times when you aren’t able to see, He is your lamp of strong guidance.

We are also never separate from His power, glory, and will.

Jesus is in you and if evil is there, by his authority it will be removed and killed.

So keep faith, for in your life He has always kept in touch. Jesus has been with you and never for a second will He ever leave us.

Way of Life

Teaching them to observe all things that I have commanded you; and logic given you. And be sure of this: I am with you always, even to the end of the age! Matthew 28:20 (NKJV)

Lord Jesus Christ,

Thank You for loving me so much. You died for my sins and I know You have never left my side, even though sometimes my behavior says different. Please forgive me, Lord, for my many sins and falling short of Your example. I will do better knowing that I will never be separated from your love and presence. In Your precious name I pray. Amen!

Chapter Six

We Have a Friend in Jesus

Jesus is our friend to the end. He hears all our prayers and knows our desires. You receive blessings you didn’t ask for every day. That is Jesus blessing you out of His love. He knows the dreams of everyone on earth and if they line up with the will of God, they will become a reality. That is what a true friend is for—to help us succeed. And believe me, Christ is your best friend.

Bread of Life

A man who has friends must himself be friendly, but there is a friend who sticks closer than a brother. Proverbs 18:24 (NLT)
Way of Life

I command you to love each other in the same way that I have loved you. And here is how to measure it. The greatest love is shown when people lay down their lives for their friends. You are my friends if you follow my commands. John 15:12-14
