3 Stories to pay attention to in 2018

After nourishment, shelter and companionship, stories are the thing we need most in the world.”? Philip Pullman

No, I’m not talking about the frigid weather, the most recent “me too” outing or the latest Presidential tweet.

The stories that you probably need to pay attention to in 2018 are the same ones I have to pay attention to…

  1. The story of your product or service
  2. The story of customers and clients
  3. The story of your limitations

First, you have to acknowledge the power of story.  In a previous post I talked about some of the historically great storytellers - the stories they told and the impact they had. Here’s a link to that post.

As it applies to us and our businesses stories are not just “part of the equation”, they are the equation.

Your Product or Service

Every great business, whether it’s Federal Express, McDonalds or Little’s Shoe Store in Pittsburgh has a story.

The reason they started, the mission they intend to fulfill, their philosophy of how they wish to serve their audience, change the world or make humanity happier or healthier or wealthier or wiser.

You business should have one too…

Your customers all have their own individual stories

Depending on what you sell you may be interested right down to the “micro level”, like who their family is, when their birthdate is, where they were born and grew up, when their parents died and from what.

Harvey Mackay built Mackay envelopes on “The MACKEY 66” - 66 questions he demanded his sales people knew about the customers that were their ideal avatar.

If you have the type of product or service that addresses a problem many people have, that’s the story you need to understand and be able to clearly elucidate.

With Federal Express the problem was when people HAD to have something delivered by the next day. Didn’t matter whether the customer was a doting grandparent looking buying a grandchild’s birthday gift or a plumber needing a certain part for an important job.

Be sure you clearly understand your customers story.

The story of your limitations

Perhaps the most important story is the one you carry around with you.

The story your conscious mind has told your subconscious mind so many times that your subconscious mind has decided is “the truth, the whole truth and nothing but the truth

In Gay Hendricks great book “The Big Leap” - You can get it here on Amazon if you haven't already he studies in detail how most of us human beings put limitation on ourselves out of false beliefs that we don’t deserve all that we can have financially, physically, emotionally and/or relationally.

  • Have you convinced yourself that your marriage “just can’t get any better”?
  • Do you believe that “there just isn’t enough time in the day”?
  • Perhaps you just “know” that your family genes mean you’ll always be a “little chubby”?

Don’t just “be aware” of this one (although that’s an important first step), be ASSURED that you can rewrite this story and you can start today if you really want to.

As we head into 2018 I wish for you what I wish for myself, that your story will be inspiring to as many as possible and enriching to everyone who knows it but most of all enriching to you, your family and the people you love.

Bill Bateman (like Batman with an “E” in the middle I often tell people on the phone)

PS - great stories metaphorically need great book covers, space on great book shelves and raving fans telling other people about the story. That’s one of the reasons I’ve turned to ClickFunnels to communicate our stories to our customers.

If you’d like a 14 day - no obligation free trial - just click on THIS  link. If you haven’t yet heard the story behind ClickFunnels, Russell Brunson’s book DotCom Secrets is a great place to start.

If you already know “just enough to be dangerous” about Russell and ClickFunnels his second book - Expert Secrets is a MUST read for every entrepreneurs library
