Many years ago I heard someone say “Don’t take it personal….it’s just business.” I didn’t have any idea what that meant at the time. As I’ve gotten older and spent more time in the business world, I’ve come to understand that for many there is a distinct line between people and business. For me, I don’t agree with this statement, because my business is personal.
When I was looking into what home business would be a good fit for me, I knew that I needed to find a company that would place value on me as a person and I wouldn’t be just a faceless part of the company. I wanted to find a company where my suggestions were heard and my hard work was noticed and appreciated.
Too many people are solely focused on the making money part of having a business and they lose sight of the personal reasons that they got into business. For me, I’m in business to help people. The discount plans that Xpress Healthcare offers allow people that don’t have health or dental insurance to be able to save up to 85% on their healthcare costs. That means that services that would have cost full price are now costing them far less! That means money isn’t being spent and in this day and age none of us can afford to overspend if we don’t have to! I got into this business to help people create a source of income. For some people it’s additional income. For others it’s their sole source of income. The best part is that this stream of income can be generated from anywhere in the world, at any time of the day or night and it’s residual income! Earn it once and it keeps paying you month after month! I’m able to help Moms and Dads spend more time at home. I’m allowing a single Mom to not have to send their child to daycare. I’m helping a retired person supplement their retirement income – and also supplement their Medicare benefits! I got into this business because I want people to know that there is a real, living and breathing person doing this business. I’m not just an automated machine sending out random emails. I’m someone that’s going to call you and offer my assistance. If I know that you need help I will make sure that you receive it from me. If you have a question, I’m here to answer it. I’m not just adding team members and forgetting about them because I’m so focused on adding more and more people. That’s not who I am. That’s just an automated business and there’s nothing personal about that.
Take the time to get to know the people on your team. Follow up with people that are your customers. It takes less time and effort to keep a team member and customer than it does to find a new one. Take the time to write blogs so that people can get to know YOU! Reach out to people and let them see the type of business owner that you are. People prefer to do business with people they know. How can they get to know you if you’re not sharing yourself with them?
I was recently asked what my best business practice was and I replied that I let people know the person that I am and why I am in business, doing what I am doing. I do that through my blogs and in my conversations with people. Businesses need people to survive. Look at those “people” as individuals and value them because they are the ones that will determine if your business will prosper or fail. Make your business personal and not only will you look at it differently but others will as well.
