One of the things that I love the most about having my own business is that I decide how to market myself and my company. I use the internet, business to business, local networking groups and referrals. All of these mediums have provided success, but I find that what makes the biggest difference is that I let my own personality and love of what I do shine through. It may be in a telephone conversation or in one of my blog posts or an eMail that I've written. No matter what it is, I always make sure that people get to know the person that I am and why I do what I do. People do business with someone that they trust. More often than not you need to establish trust and rapport with someone before they'll do business with you. Once that trust is earned, make sure to keep it, because it can be a hard thing to earn back.
How often have you been talking with someone and you find your mind wandering because that person is just rambling on and on and you lost interest? Has that person engaged you in the conversation? Do you feel that they are just talking and there's no enthusiasm behind their words? Do you sense that they LOVE what they are doing? Enthusiasm is contagious. You have to truly love what you do and believe in it to be able to honestly convey that excitement.
