According to the US Census Bureau's 2010 annual report, the number of Americans living in poverty rose to 46.2 million in 2010 or nearly one in six people. The number of Americans living below the poverty line (an annual income of $22,314 or less for a family of four, and $11,139 for a single person) has now risen for four years in a row. How are these families surviving? With an unemployment rate of 8.3%, it’s increasingly difficult for Americans to find a “traditional” job that will support their family. More and more, people are struggling as they try to make ends meet.
What does this mean? It means that unprecedented numbers of people are utilizing the World Wide Web as a way to earn an income. The ability to work from home has opened the door for millions of people to earn an income right from their kitchen table. While the internet is a wealth of information, you must take the time to thoroughly research any income opportunity you are considering. How many people do you think are really able to “make 7 figures in only 2 weeks”? If that were the case, the poverty level wouldn’t continue to be increasing and we’d hear a lot more stories on the news of these instant millionaires!
What do you need to do? Be informed! Don’t just look at one website and decide that’s the one for you. Take the time to visit several websites as you research different companies or opportunities you are considering. Talk with people within each organization. Check the scam alerts online and investigate the company. It’s a sad but true fact that there are people out there with one goal in mind: to take your money and run! What additional benefits are you offered in conjunction with your affiliation with an organization? How is their compensation plan structured? Ask the same questions you would if you were applying for a more traditional job with a brick and mortar business.
Take advantage of any trial periods that are offered. This is truly the only way you’ll be able to see what is involved in what you are considering. You should be able to have full access for a 1-2 week period for a small amount of money. Look carefully for a mentor within the organization. This person will be instrumental in your success as they will be providing guidance to you as you are learning the business. Be sure that your personality and their personality mesh well, as you may find yourself speaking with them often in the early days.
There are many, many outstanding companies that are enabling people to create a consistent flow of income via the Internet. Hard work and persistence are both key to your success. While the economy is in such turmoil, it’s reassuring to know that you can be in control of your financial future by creating your own flow of income by way of an internet home-based business.

| | | | | I love this blog Cheryl. You provide some great tips. If more people followed your suggestions, we wouldn't hear so many complaints from unsuccessful network marketers. If people really do their homework, and they'll find a company that is a perfect match. |
