A Closed Mouth Doesn't Get Fed, Or Does It?

This is a story about man called Christian, who emigrated to Australia a few years ago.

He wanted to come up with the perfect Wedding anniversary gift for his parents who were celebrating their (Golden) 50thwedding anniversary, especially since he couldn’t be there to celebrate with them personally.

Christian originally from Long Island, New York, immigrated to a little town called Gosford on the Central Coast in eastern Australia.

He loved the mix of rural and beachside lifestyle that the New South Wales Central Coast offered.

Being of Greek descent he also felt at home in Australia for the Greeks are the 7th largest ethnic group in Australia, and it is said that outside of Greece, Australia has the highest concentration of Greeks in any one place.

Christian’s parents back home in Long Island were about to celebrate their Golden 50th wedding anniversary, and he wanted to buy them a present.

But he didn’t want to buy them just any old present.

He wanted to buy them something that they would cherish, something tangible, something memorable.

You see his parents were senior citizens with his Dad almost 80 years old and his mum in her late 60’s.

He thought long and hard about what to get them on this their milestone wedding anniversary.  He brainstormed with his friends and co-workers alike.

Suggestions included a cruise, to certain ornaments, but Christian soon dismissed these, because firstly his parents hated traveling on water, and besides they already had several ornaments in their house.

His answer came to him one day whilst walking down his local high street. He came across a pet store that had this exotic looking bird in the window. That bird was a cockatoo.

Now this wasn’t any old bird, but rather a Galah or Rose-breasted Cockatoo.

These birds have a pale to mid grey back, a pink face and chest, and a lighter pink crest and get this not only do they make a good pets, because they have an affectionate and bubbly personality.

But this particular bird was particularly special because it spoke not just one, but two languages, English and Greek.

Christian knew that he had found just the right present.

All he needed to do now was to arrange to have this bird shipped to New York in time for his parent’s Golden Wedding anniversary. He was able to arrange all this at a cost of $2000 U.S.

On the day of his parent’s anniversary, Christian calls his parents not only to wish them a Happy 50th Anniversary but also to find out if they got the bird and what they thought of it.

Christian: Dad how are you Happy Anniversary to you and mum, I was just wanted to know if you got the bird and what you thought of it?

Dad: Yes yes, we got the bird and it was DELICIOUS!!!…..

Christian: DAD….how could you…? That was a very exotic bird, it cost me $2000 to send it to you and it had a lovely pink crest, and moreover spoke not one but two languages, English and Greek how could you do this….?? Dad!!!!

As you can imagine Christian at this stage is livid, because he goes through all this effort to send his parents this lovely bilingual bird  for their Golden Wedding anniversary and his father eats it…..

Dad: Silence…

Christian: DAD, are you still there, did you hear what I said? What do you have to say for yourself…?

Dad: I’m here son, well the Bird should’ve SAID SOMETHING…..

P.S I do not subscribe to the consumption of any exotic birds.

P.P.S The only birds I eat are chickens.
