But first, why are headlines so important?

With any advertising that you’re doing writing responsive headlines is the key.

More than 83% of people will just read your headline only. It is for this very reason that you’re headline MUST absolutely stop them dead in their tracks.

If it doesn't then you have just wasted your whole ad, article, video, press release or whatever sales piece that you produced.

John Caples put it like this, “ If you have a good headline, you have a good ad. Any competent writer can write the copy. If you have a poor headline you are licked before you start. Your copy will not be read.”

Think about a headline as a sign on the front of a door, a label on a package or the frosting on a cake. This is what determines if a person will enter the door, open the package or eat the cake.

The same goes for headlines, if you have a poor headline then as noted by John Caples above, you are licked before you start and your copy will NOT be read.

One of the best ways to come up with headlines is to write a lot of them quickly without thinking about it. Then start to look at what kind of headlines attract you.

Which ones stand out and make you want to read the copy?

Another way is to look at the headlines of the magazines near the checkout  lines of any major grocery store. 

Study and model the way they use headlines, as you are looking at high paid copywriters at work there.
