Stretching: Valuable, Necessary, Beneficial

Have you ever seen something grow brittle and unusable due to lack of usage?

In one sense, that is what can happen to your body if you do not stretch it and keep it pliable over the long haul. Your body is quite a fine tuned instrument and constricting it to patterned, predictable, "in the box movements" every day, will cause it to constrict and limit its range of motion. We are all familiar with the adage

"If you don't use it, you'll lose it."

Knowing this truth, don't be a victim of limited movement. Please, stretch daily.

According to the Mayo Clinic, the top four benefits of stretching include:

Increased flexibility and joint range of motion.? Flexible muscles can improve your daily performance. Tasks such as lifting packages, bending to tie your shoes or hurrying to catch a bus become easier and less tiring. Flexibility tends to diminish as you get older, but you can regain and maintain it.

Improved Circulation. ?Stretching increases blood flow to your muscles. Blood flowing to your muscles brings nourishment and gets rid of waste byproducts in the muscle tissue. Improved circulation can help shorten your recovery time if you've had any muscle injuries.?
Better Posture.?Frequent stretching can help keep your muscles from getting tight, allowing you to maintain proper posture. Good posture can minimize discomfort and keep aches and pains at a minimum.

Stress Relief. Stretching relaxes tight, tense muscles that often accompany stress. This leads to more openess, relaxation and a "detoxification of your personal environment". When you control the controllables, you are giving yourself permission to be powerful.

And that in itself can be very freeing.

Keep it simple, because you want no excuses to keep you from stretching daily. Add it into your routine, right next to brushing and flossing - you are flossing, right ;-)?

Cheers to Your Best Health,

Coach Kim
