Good news for coffee drinkers!

A report about the health benefits of coffee was recently published by International Business Times. The sources for the report were reliable ones, including the Harvard School of Public Health, the Institute for Scientific Information on Coffee (ISIC), and the International Journal of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences. If the information published is accurate—likely the case—then it’s good news for Starbucks Corporation (SBUX), Dunkin' Brands Group, Inc. (DNKN), and McDonald's Corp. (MCD).

If consumers know that coffee offers the health benefits mentioned below, then they’re likely to drink more coffee. This could also lead to non-coffee drinkers giving it a go. Furthermore, those who considered slowing down on their coffee consumption might reverse course.

Studies from the aforementioned sources show that the health benefits of coffee include:

Reduced sugar levels of Type 2 diabetics by 25%
Improved insulin sensitivity
1 – 3 cups per day reducing the risk of prostate cancer by 29%
Coffee drinkers being 50% less likely to contract liver cancer than non-coffee drinkers
Men drinking 2 – 3 cups per day being 40% less likely to develop symptomatic gallstone disease
Altering the cholesterol content of bile produced by the liver
3 – 5 cups per day could reduce the risk of death by cardiovascular disease by up to 25%
Currently, 85% of Americans consume three cups of coffee per day. Based on this report, this stat might see a bump. Of course, it depends on how many Americans become aware of this news. If that number proves to be high, then it would only help Starbucks, Dunkin’ Brands, and McDonald’s, which all sell large amounts of coffee.
