“How do I lose weight?”

A question as old as tastebuds themselves. Perhaps the answer is as simple as stop gaining weight. An insight into the makeup of your body is a little known secret that your body, in fact, would prefer to sit peacefully at its homeostatic ideal; a weight that is easily supported by natural bone structure that is mobile, slender enough to get about with ease, yet enough fat that the body isn’t terrified of starving.

If we stop stuffing ourselves with nutritionally dead food and artificially flavored liquids, our body will autocorrect and find its optimum weight. It would be psychologically comforting if weight loss was so incomprehensibly difficult that very few could accomplish something so great, so extraordinary. But the harsh truth is that EVERYONE and ANYONE can manage their weight.

Metabolism or genetics can be outsmarted by wise dietary choices.

The answer to weight loss is aggravating because it’s SIMPLE. Adhering to simple steps however, is HARD.

If anyone were to sum up healthy weight loss, general body wellness and maintenance into just a few sentences, it’d look something like this:

  1. Eat correct portions of nutritious food throughout the day.
  2. Drink plenty of water
  3. Get plenty of sleep.
  4. Keep active throughout the day and make time to sweat, stretch and move.
  5. Don’t eat candy or drink soda and limit your carb intake.

Notice there’s no mention of starving or running marathons.

Basic dietary swaps and being more active can alter your body completely.

 


“I’m trying to lose the weight.”
“I don’t want to gain weight.”
“I want to feel better.”
“I want to sleep better, focus, lower my cholesterol, etc etc.”

Most of us are addicted to food and have an unhealthy relationship with it. Change your relationship and understanding of food. Become familiar with what to avoid, what to eat and when.

Weight loss, health and diet are not so daunting a subject if you put in a little effort and with time, they become your friends instead of the misunderstood enemy.

HELPFUL RULES OF THUMB FOR DRAMATIC PHYSICAL CHANGE:

  • Avoid sweetened beverages – soda especially
  • Stop eating candy and sweets – sad but true
  • Don’t skip meals – starving is no bueno
  • Plenty of protein – FENIX to the rescue
  • Carbs are the enemy – No white bread, YIKES
  • Go for evening walks – Awe, cute
  • Become familiar with reading labels – Sugars are not your friend
  • Make time for exercise – More than what you’re doing now
  • Portion control – Don’t eat until you’re full, eat what’s on your plate
  • Get plenty of sleep – Make it a priority
  • Hydrate – Drink lots of water
