Are you a good Follower?
Are you currently in the process of learning something new? Are you being given advice, pointers, information etc. from someone?
If so, are you actually paying attention to them? Following what advice and information that they are handing out to you?
We are all learning all the times in some form or fashion. Some more so than others, depending on what you are trying to accomplish or even how difficult something is. We may look to someone else to give us a leg up and learn the “system” or “business” quicker than doing it by ourselves.
For those of us that are in network marketing and are being sponsored by someone with whom we have signed up under, we must understand just how precious their time is and should be grateful and most definitely respectful of them making time to help us get into the “business” that we have joined.
Now, of course, if they are any type of decent leader that a real leader should be, then of course, they will be there to help you along the way to a certain point anyway. Because your success will reflect on them and also make them more successful.
What I would like to convey here however, is even though you will need their help, especially if you are completely new to the business of network marketing, or any other business for that matter, please remember to be a good follower.
In this I mean, give your utmost attention to them when they are going over something with you. Listen with both ears and respect them enough to keep quiet until they are finished with what they are saying. Do not keep interrupting them with too many questions or unnecessary comments until they either ask for them or there seems to be an appropriate place for you to interject.
Some people may be focused and if you interrupt them they could lose concentration, get off subject, or any other various things could happen. Either way, you could be losing some valuable information if you interrupt at the incorrect time.
The best thing I would say to do is to jot down your questions, concerns, remarks, etc. until an appropriate window opens for you to interject your thoughts.
A good leader should also be a good listener, and when the time is right, I am sure that they will make the time and listen to what you need to say about the subject.
When things get hectic and many things are going on at once, sometimes it will be difficult to follow what you are being told. All you can do is to concentrate on listening at the moment and catch as much as you can.
By all means, do not act like you already know what you are being taught. Even though you may have some knowledge in what is being said, there may actually be something that you MAY not know.
Each leader, each follower looking to learn more and possibly looking to be a future leader, all respond in different ways to each other. A leader may not communicate the same way with the different people who he is trying to teach. Just like all relationships, people respond differently to different people. And different leaders teach different ways. Some may joke around and are able to get their point across, some may be more serious and business like, but they also get their point across.
You as a follower, a follower at least until you have learned what you are looking to become more familiar with, need to do all that you can to absorb what is being told or shown to you.
When all is said and done, not only will you have hopefully gained the knowledge you were looking for, but you may have made a new friend, at least in the business sense, because they know that you cared enough to respect and listen to them enough to follow what they suggested.
Even if there is a time that you may not be in complete agreement with their methods, thoughts or ideas, there will always be a time and a way to put that out on the table also.
The whole idea here is to have and show respect, consideration and loyalty to each other. We are all here for the same purpose, to better ourselves, our lives, our situations in some shape and form.
Remember, what goes around comes around. Give out what you want in return.

 | | Good advice Darleen! This is a must read! |
| | | | | Great information in this post Darleen. "He who has never learned to obey cannot be a good commander" - Aristotle |
| | | | | A MUST READ for every Leader! The key is to seek good advice and take it, make it your own. Follow not the leaders but follow and take Action with the Good teaching and terrific advice! Thank you for sharing Darleen! |
| | | | | Darleen, I think you have hit the nail on the head when addressing the relationship between mentor and new team member. It is extremely difficult for many to "follow the leader" - most have an opinion of how it could be done better. Be patient and follow your mentor's advice - it pays off! |
| | | | | God gave us two ears and one mouth for a reason. We should listen twice as much as we talk. |
| | | | | Treat others as you want to be treated. It works in business as in every part of life. Respect for teachers and elders has always been a part of my life. As a teacher on the internet listening is as important as teaching. I was taught it is important to always answer questions. |
