Not sure how this is put out throughout the other parts of the country, but in Arkansas, if you are caught NOT wearing your seat belt, you will receive a ticket.
Also the last time I knew, if your passenger isn't wearing a seat belt, you could be fined at least $25.
Wearing a seat belt is extremely important. I am sure this isn't anything new to people with any common sense.
However, something that I have questioned and turn over in my head from time to time makes me write this blog today.
I fully comply with the laws concerning seat belts.
But based on my experience and hearing different stories concerning accidents, I feel this is one of those things in life that overall "Yes" it is better to wear a seat belt, yet there are times when it may not me the best.
For instance, I had an accident about 13 years ago. After a rainstorm, I was trying to manuever my vehicle around a curve, lost control and went down a 25 ft. embankment.
I did NOT have my seat belt on and was tossed around in the minivan. When it finally came to a stop, I was sitting in the passenger side and unable to move due to an excruciating pain coming from the area of my pelvic and hip area.
Smoke was coming from the front of the vehicle and I just knew it was going to explode. I tried to escape the vehicle by falling out onto the ground, however, was unable to physically push myself out of the vehicle.
By not having my seat belt on, I was tossed around the vehicle like a rag doll. I ended up with a fractured pelvis and a dislocated hip, which to this day, has continued to give me problems with increasing pain and inability to walk as well as I should. However, I can walk.
I was told after the accident that if I had my seat belt on, and had actually stayed put in the drivers seat, that the way the steering wheel had ended up being crushed and pushed down into the drivers seat, that I would have been paralyzed for life.
I have heard other horror stories of people without seat belts being thrown from their vehicles. Again, with good and bad outcomes. For some, this may have saved their lives, for some it may have caused their death.
Do you see what I am trying to say here?
I am not telling anyone NOT to wear a seat belt, and a person can never know what could happen from one moment to the next.
This just seems to be one of those "roll of the dice" things in life.
So, there is some food for thought to begin your day.
Be safe everyone and please feel free to share your comments on this subject.

 | | Thanks for the information about seat belts. They do save lives but they may cost us a few also. |
