We've all heard investors tell us to 'Diversify' and of course we've all heard the old saying, "Don't put all your eggs in one basket". Well these are words to live by for the internet marketer.
Truly successful internet marketers usually have multiple streams of income. Some have many sites selling various products, others may decide to research affiliate marketing until they find three to five companies they feel are solid, trust worthy and have good track records so they decide to join. Then there are those who do both.
The main reasons for having multiple streams of income is 1) once your streams of income really start to produce you will gain true financial freedom much sooner than if you only had one stream of income and 2) most network marketing plans, whether selling your own product or affiliate marketing, takes anywhere from 2-5 years to really begin to produce income that allows you to quit your 9 to 5 job; especially in today's market.
Most people in affiliate marketing make only about $400 the first six months, imagine if you made $400 from 3 or 5 sources, versus just one? Get the picture? Also, the market will fluctuate; one month product A may sell like hotcakes while products B and C are barely getting any notice. Six months down the road this may flip, product C is you new hot buy while products A and B are a little slow...you get the picture. Then there will be months when all of your products are selling like crazy as well as months when your overall sells are down...it happens.
It takes time to market your product or service, build a following, drive traffic to your site and build your list. For those who don't understand the reason for building a list, your list is so you can keep you members updated on the product they initially showed interest in AND to inform them of new note worthy products you believe they may be interest in. Do not spam them and do not bombard them every week with a new 'latest and greatest'.
My suggestion to anyone getting into the network marketing business, do your research. Find companies that have been around for at least 10 years, search for reviews that are NOT from people who are affiliates of that particular program and find at least 3 programs or products you believe in.
If you decide to go with a new company, be prepared. It may take off like crazy at first and then even out, or it may be slow out of the gate and need to prove itself over the first year or so.
If you are doing affiliate marketing, take your time to learn one system at a time. Learn from your sponsor, learn about your product and get your marketing strategy down to a science. Only when you have your first product marketing plan set in motion and are out of 'training' mode should you move to the next product you wish to sell.
Also keep in mind if you are working all on your own, I wouldn't suggest more than three product sites or affiliates because it takes time to market your products or services. Too much can become overwhelming, and you may end up abandoning marketing.
