Steer Clear Of These 10 Harmful Search Engine Mistakes

You are already aware of the significance of traffic if you have a blog or a website. Traffic is as critical to Internet marketing as the location is to real estate. Traffic is the only thing that really counts. In order to make sales, you must attract targeted visitors to your site. The owner of the web site is generally the person to take care of driving traffic. In some cases the site’s owner may designate another person, perhaps the sites designer if he didn’t design it himself. The best way to generate traffic is via search engines. A lot of marketers use advertising, but the expense can rapidly defeat the purpose. The least expensive method of generating traffic is by using the search engines to guide your targeted visitors to your site. Search engine visibility leads to traffic, which leads to success. It’s unfortunate that many website owners do not understand the concept of their search engine visibility. After spending your time creating a beautiful website, it would be a shame if no one visited it. Remember, the beauty of your site is secondary to the getting your targeted traffic to your site. Following is a list of mistakes customarily made by website owners. Maybe it will aid you in generating more targeted traffic to your website or blog. 1. The use of ineffective keywords You want to target people who are interested in the object or topic of your site. If you use the wrong keywords you will get little or no traffic. Choosing the right keywords will generate the right traffic and guide potential customers to your site. 2. Keyword stacking Keyword stacking is frowned up by the search engines and they may downgrade your page or site by skipping it. Keyword stacking is when you use the same keywords too many times. 3. Plagiarism A lot of people operate under the assumption that “it’s ok to use anything you find on the Internet”. We all know that that hypothesis is just one’s way of moralizing his actions. In actuality, you are stealing content that belongs to someone else and using it as your own. It’s called plagiarism and it’s illegal! It’s ok to use the content of other sites to gain knowledge, but not to copy their content. You may think the Internet is a big place and your duplicate content will never be detected, but the search engines are probably more intelligent than you think and they will detect the duplication and you may find that your site or sites are never ranked decently again. 4 Using unrelated keywords If you spend a fair amount of time on the Internet, you’ve no doubt searched a word or phrase which resulted in a site that was completely unrelated to your input. There are many website owners who will use a current hot search topic inside a meta tag just to get viewers to their sites. They seem to think this unethical act will improve their visibility. All this action is going to do is get their page, and conceivably their entire site removed from the search engine listing, as this procedure is considered spam. 5 Masking your keywords Some unscrupulous designers set the keywords to the same color as the background of their page making them seem invisible in an attempt to hide them. Trying to mask your keywords or keyword phrases in this manner is wrong and it will not work. If you think it can do no harm because it can’t be seen, you’re mistaken. 6 Stuffing keywords Keyword stuffing is similar to keyword stacking. When multiple keywords are assigned to the description of content on your website by using the “alt=” HTML parameter, you are stuffing keywords. When your text doesn’t truly describe the graphic or the layer, it will be considered spam by the search engines. 7 Using unreadable text Another way marketers try to hide their excessive use of keywords is by including them on the site in text that is so small it is almost indecipherable. 8 Search engines are different Each search engine has its own set of rules, which they expect Internet marketers to abide by. They change the rules as they go along. You should make it your business to know what each of the major search engines requirements are for high visibility; and keep current with this knowledge. 9 The use of free web hosting Frequently the search engines will eliminate content from sites using free hosts. If you seriously want to be visible you should not use free web hosting. 10 Not checking for missing elements Make sure to check every page on your site to make sure it is exactly what you want it to be; your graphics are placed where you want them and look the way you want them to; make sure all your links work the way you want them to, etc. There are sites that will check your site for free, but you are the person who knows exactly how you want your site to look and act. In addition to the few damaging search engine errors to avoid listed here, there are many others. If you feel drawn to perform any of these destructive actions, just remember that in the end you will have done yourself more harm than good. You will only succeed in getting your site banned from the search engines for eternity. It’s just not worth it. Learn and apply the appropriate procedures to increase search engine visibility and watch your traffic increase.
