Sean Penn was awarded the 2012 Peace Summit Award for his humanitarian efforts in Haiti.
During his heartfelt and emotional speech where he was visibly shaking he said, “It’s an overused phrase I know, but I trust you know its genuine today, I am humbled. I’m trembling and I like it.” The award was presented to him by former Soviet President Mikhail Gorbachev, who was joined on stage by the Dalai Lama and former Polish President Lech Walesa.
Sean has been steadfast with trying to help rebuild Haiti after the 2010 earthquake that killed more than 300,000 people and left at least 1.5 million homeless. He actually lives part time in Haiti in a tent. Helping the people of Haiti has been a well known plight that he still consistently tries to keep people ware that Haiti is still in dire need of help. During his speech, he urge the world community to remember Haiti and invest in the country’s future and President Michel Martelly, who took office in May 2011.

 | | He is a great guy! We need to give back, with our time or and money, every little helps. God has blessed so many of us and giving back is a way to say thank you and to keep the blessing coming. Thank you Deirdre for sharing. |
