Are You The Coach Business Owners Need?

Every business owner needs a clear long-term goal. Business owners also need a roadmap that outlines how to achieve it, which is why business owners form a strategy. As a coach, this is one of the most important things I assist people to accomplish.

But is this something you begin day-one?

Highly experienced coaches don’t develop long-term goals on day-one. These are the reasons why they don't.

  • Because first someone who is starting a new business or beginning this 'coaching thing' need a few quick wins to recognize coaching is right for them and that you are the coach for them.
  • An early win eases their fear and fires up their confidence in themselves. When they see positive results and make some money, they are sold on the coaching process and you.
  • Another important aspect is – you need to develop a good working relationship with your client(s) for the long-term. To do this, you need to focus on developing a positive relationship. A win helps to solidify a strong relationship.

And you also want to show your clients some results right away.

If you focus more on the strategy, it might feel like you’re doing too much talking without helping them take enough action.

Business owners want results, and they want them now.

I ask, "What is the one thing you want to achieve or solve first?" This gives the message you will approach the work as a term rather than you being the dictator.

I think about how to create it. How do you create a balance between a long-term strategy and a few small wins as quickly as possible? Avoid focusing on both at the same time, as you could screw up one or both.

I decided to tell my client(s) – let’s postpone the strategy part for a while. Since I’ll be working hard long-term for my clients, the strategy can wait for a little.

During the first 30 days, I focus on what I can assist my clients to level up quickly. It might be an individual or team issue. It might be they need to hire a manager. I assist my client on issues that they know about but haven't remedied. I assist them to create solutions that will impact their bottom line quickly--i.e. within 30 - 90 days.

So, when you begin with a new client, make sure to show them what you can do right away. Let them know that you can assist them to improve their bottom line from the get-go, and then focus on the long-term stuff.

And remember with each new client you are not only adding to your bottom line you are acquiring more expertise and strategies to assist you to assist your future clients--Win/Win.

I wish you well on your coaching journey.
