After reading through Woman's World Magazine, I discovered that veggies are not just healthy to eat, but are useful in other ways. As I get YOUNGER, (LOL) I am always looking for ways to continue to look younger and stay healthy, so I thought I'd share what I read.
The article, information according to Janice Cox, author of EcoBeauty, was in the July 2, 2012 edition of Woman's World as Spa at Home - Pampering DIY beauty recipes from your garden!
By reading it, I realized that vegatables are not just good to eat for inside health, but can be used to keep my body looking healthy on the outside. The 5 veggies discussed were .. Tomatoes, Carrots, Cucumber, Parsley, and Lettuce ...
1. Tomatoes: >> They are good for oily skin >> It acts as a natural astringent while helping to control excess oil which is a contributor to clogged and enlarged pores >> They are rich in Vitamin C which gives the skin a gorgeous glow
Make your own Tomato Toner.. *1 tsp. tomato juice *3 Tbs. distilled water Mix ingredients in a reclosable bottle. Shake vigorously. Pour a few drops onto a cotton pad and sweep over skin. It will keep for 1 week in the fridge
2. Carrots: >> Helps firm you skin >> They are loaded with skin firming vitamin A >> Have anti-aging antioxidants such as beta-carotene
Make your own Carrot Face Mask .. *3-5 peeled and steamed carrots *1/2 tsp. light olive oil Puree the carrots and oil in a food processor until creamy. Apply mask to a clean face and relax for 15 minutes. Rinse and pat dry. Yields 1 application.
3. Cucumbers >> Helps soothe your skin >> They're rich in skin calming silica, a mineral that naturally helps build connective skin tissue >> They have the same perfectly balanced pH level as healthy skin
Make your own Cucumber Eye Pads .. *1/2 cucumber (peeled and chopped) *2 Tbs. distilled water Puree the cucumber and water. Pour the mixture through a strainer into a clean spray bottle. Chill it and when your eyes need de-puffing or refreshing, mist over cotton pads and place over your eyes. Keeps for 2 weeks in the fridge.
4. Parsley >> Helps banish breakouts >> Parsley extract had antiseptic qualities that purify your pores >> A good remedy for acne suffers
Make your own Parsley Facial Mist .. *1 cup water *1/2 cup chopped fresh parsley Place parsley in a heat-safe bowl. Boil the water, then pour over the parsley. Allow the mixture to cool for at least 15 minutes. Strain into a spray bottle and mist over face after cleansing. Keeps for 2 weeks in the fridge.
5. Lettuce >> Helps revitalize hair >> Good for dry, frizzy and brittle hair >> Contains protein and chlorophyll that can give hair a softer, smoother texture
Make your own Sea Lettuce Hair Rinse .. *1/2 cup sea lettuce flakes (found in health food stores) *2 cups of water Bring the water to a boil. Remove from heat. Pour the flakes into the water and steep for 10 minutes. Strain (fine-mesh) and pour through hair before you shampoo and condition. Relax for 10 minutes. Rinse and shampoo as usual. Yields 1 application.
Tip: If you have sensative skin, patch test each treatment on your arm before you fully indulde!
Hope this is as refreshing to you as it was to me!
