Teenagers
Maybe I should have said something like this!

                              Picture of Pastor with Haylo

A Teenager just got his driver's license and asked his father for the keys.

"Son," replied his father, "after you get your grades up, start readying your Bible every day and get a haircut, I'll let you drive the car."

A little time went by, and the son repeated his request. "And father, I'm getting better grades, and I'm reading the Bible every day!"

"Indeed you are," his father responded, "but you still haven't gotten a haircut"

"Aw, Dad. Samson had long hair, and so did Moses, In fact, Jesus had long hair, too"

"Yes, son, and they walked everywhere they went!"

What I am telling you is that I had bought our first new car in 1973. It was a four door LTD.

                         Picture of 1973 Ford LTD

My son asked me if he could borrow the car to go to a high school dance. He had been driving for awhile and I felt he could drive careful enough.

I gave him a usual comment, "Now son you know that this car has the big engine in it and you don't have enough experience to try out all the horsepower." He said, "Yes dad."

Later in the evening, Beth and I were watching TV in the living room and I saw a light as a car turned in the driveway. I wondered who it could be as it was earlier than expected for son to becoming home. I looked through the window and it was a strange car.

Son met me as I was opening the door. Dad, "I got the car stuck." Beth came popping right out of the sofa in one bounce,

                  WHAT, STUCK OUR NEW CAR"
( It was actually three years old)
"NOW DON'T GET TO HARD ON SON UNTIL YOU KNOW"

Now this is funny, as I can get pretty tough if the discipline needs it but, I said, "yes dear" as I told son, "come on, you and I will take the old Dodge (my work car) and go have a look.

The area was on the outskirts of town and on a gravel road. As we came up on a curve, Son said, "Stop here on the curve Dad."

Now this was a sicken feeling as I knew this area and I know this is a steep bank to the field below which was about 10 feet lower than the road and it is very dark and I could not even see the car.

I know you would not believe it as I could not. The car had gone between, several tress, sitting on a patch of nice green grass and had no damage.

So I turned to son and asked, "why didn't you just drive it out?"

Son said, "because it is stuck on top of a tree stump."

LUCKY. I found no damage underneath either. We found some chunks of wood which we used to run the wheels on to get it off the stump and I drove it up over the bank and told son "Now you drive the Dodge home.

I believe that he enjoyed driving the old Dodge with the Push Button Transmission.even better for the next couple of years.

P.S.  Son has not had another accident                                            the past 40 years.
