What Do You Network For? Networking, Connections,
VISIT WEBSITE (learn more)
|
When you go to a networking event, what are your intentions?
Are you trying to get more business....collect the most business cards....give out all of your business cards.....set appointments.....??
I have learned and witnessed that too many people THINK they know how to network. They are very confident in themselves and their business. They are very aggressive and they leave events with quite a few appointments. But, when they get to those appointments, what do they do? They talk about themselves and THEIR business. They never REALLY LISTEN to the other person. They are only focused on gaining that person as a customer or client. They may even "put down" the other person's choice source of income and advise why their business is "Better". This may work with and for a select few but it is not long lasting.
You should build a connection...a relationship. TRULY "Listen" to the other person. "Hear" their likes, hot buttons, dislikes, needs, goals, etc. If a person feels a connection with you or a relationship building, they are more likely to join you, collaborate with you and/or refer you.
I am always open to meeting with and listening to others about themselves as well as their business. I feel everybody should do this. Their business may not be something for you now, but it may be later or, even if it is never for you, you may know somebody or run into somebody that it is for. You can refer them and, guess what, they will do the same for you.
