You may have read this allegory sometime back about an American Indian and his grandson.
The elderly American native, engaged in quiet reflection, looks to his grandson and says, ‘I feel as if I have two wolves fighting in my heart. One wolf is aggressive, angry and cruel and the other is loving, warm and compassionate.’
The grandson responds, ‘Which wolf will win the fight?’
The grandfather replied. ‘The one I feed.’
It has become almost an expectant alternative to real food as we consume litres of pharmaceutical ‘quick fixes’, vitamin pills and synthetic pills all washed down with a diet shake and the pharmaceutical companies are making a fortune from us. But the reason we have been flooded with so many alternatives is because we’ve chosen to take a back seat as far as our health is concerned. It is still ‘fashionable’ to sit down to take away meals however, the satisfying and filling diet shake is on standby when we feel the need to lose weight.
Why have we become so lazy?
As a baby, you taught yourself to walk. You struggled for a while but you conquered the loll of your head on your frail neck and those two chubby legs became your support system. You failed to stand up time and again until finally through sheer determination you made it. Then you began to mutter incoherent words that meant nothing to the stranger on the street but to your mother and dad they were enough for the time being to satisfy your innate desire to communicate. Your resolve to conquer the big, chunky tongue in your mouth prevailed until away you went and you were speaking a language everyone could understand. You talked and chattered incessantly that those who were initially excited by your first words were found silently praying for peace and a little silence!
You were all about movement. You were attaining muscle tone, strength and control and your little diaphragm and stomach was being exercised every time you squealed because you triumphed. All this became an exquisite dance of action. As you grew older and were introduced to all the easy ways out you became less active thus coming to rely on easy meals, less exercise and over all, less action.
As we grow older, our muscles weaken and we become used to our ingrained habits that introduce us to poor nutrition and an inactive lifestyle. If we can reclaim the movement we had as infants we would become more efficient both bodily and mentally. With this potential in mind it will remain as such until it is integrated into our daily lives. The minute we take real note of what we eat and how we exercise is the minute we can take powerful action to reward ourselves with a happier lifestyle. The result – longevity and agelessness but the real power within us lies in the real action we take.

 | | Yes Judy it seems to be scourge of western society. And it'll be witnessed in developing countries as well to the extent they adopt North American culture. We all owe it to the next generation to keep the old values alive. |
