You’ve heard it a thousand times…the money is in your list and the fortune is in the follow-up. Professional marketers and sales people from any industry know these to be true.

The problem for most is not just building a list; any fool can open a phone book. The key is building a list of highly targeted prospects (i.e. – someone who has an interest, expressed or implied, in your product or service.)

Do “FRESH” leads matter? In my experience not necessarily, granted if your roof came off in Hurricane Irene - you are probably more interested in roofers today than you will be in 6 months. Common sense still applies when considering your target market.

For most businesses, whether brick and mortar or on-line, the business owner, sales/marketing department is looking to establish a relationship for the first sale, and then maintain a positive relationship in order to gain not only repeat sales, but referrals.

That positive relationship begins with value. Give your customers more than they expected, do the same with prospective customers. Give them value – show them how your product or service can solve their real or perceived problem or make their life better/easier in some way.
