It's something how people will say things like, "the best things in life are free" or "why should I pay for that when I can get it free?" When I was growing up I thought I would be paying for the air I breathe. I imagined having a respirator and inserting change to breathe. Truly! I grew up in California where SMOG was horrid. Another sure thing, I thought, was we would soon have to pay for T.V. I envisioned the box sitting there with a coin slot. What I never imagined was bottled water. I knew sooner or later we would have to pay for everything but I never, myself, imagined getting rich from it. Paying for things was just a way of life.
People complain though and they reminisce, but they won't change their habits. I hear this all the time, "I remember when gas was .27 cents a gallon" or "I can't believe I am paying $75 a carton for cigarettes" Yet protest as we will, we will pay. Now the reason I mentioned these things is to bring you closer to my point. Running a business. Most people work for a living even when they are told, "working for someone else will never make you RICH" We have a certain mindset. Get up, have a cup of coffee, maybe a roll or a bagel, jump in our car and go to work. We would do this for...oh....30 years or so, then retire. That was then. Now, people are faced with massive layoffs, unemployment is going up and people are losing everything.
Depending on a paycheck today is risky business. But what do you do if this happens? Sit back and complain? It works for some. They are the ones who, when offered an opportunity, light up a smoke and tell you they can't afford it. Guilty! I was offered an opportunity. A sign said make money by the end of the week. You had to attend a seminar which cost 200 bux. I was with a friend who had 200 bux. I did not! He attended the seminar. I did not! He got rich.
There are legitimate opportunities out there, and there are some amazing free programs. At least for now. If I had taken 200 bux and invested in myself, would I be successful today? I remember when gas was .27 cents a gallon too. I can't say! Maybe I would have attended the seminar, gone out and done nothing! I could then sit back and lament, "that didn't work, now I am out two hundred bux!"
There are many opportunities which light a person up and they will fork over good money on the promise of wealth and "the good life" and good people keep falling for these schemes. They are not free, but they promise something we all desire. Freedom! When your life is crumbling around you it is easy to succumb to the hucksters who play on your emotions and immediate needs. It's like the old fairy tale about a boy trading his cow for magic beans.
I think it is time to get to the point.
The best things in life may still be free, no respirator, but to build a business you need commitment, focus and money. Instead of giving your money to the flashy ads featuring the big house, hot car and hotter babe, spend what you can on education. You have to retrain yourself. Choose something you really enjoy doing then Learn all you can about your new field. You don't have a boss so you have to become the expert. There is much more to running a business then joining a program, putting your name on the website and surfing for it to be seen. That mentality will land you in the 97% bracket. If you are going to support your family you need a plan, you need to stick to it and you may have to make sacrifices.
$75 bux a carton?

 | | Good one Larry. I remember when air was free. You can still get free water in some places. Gasoline was 35 cents, I don't remember it lower though it may have been.
I have been in the 97% long enough, ready for a change. |
