Top Network Marketing Tip On Criticism

The top network marketing tip on criticism is that it is only someone elses opinion of you NOT yours. Do they pay their bills for you? Of course NOT. I learned from my good friend and mentor Michael Dlouhy that it is none of my business what other people think of me, the only business is what I think of myself. Margi Starr tells her story on how she went through critcism and how she learned how to avoid letting it get to her!

Chapter 15-The Six Ghosts of Fear

Most of my life I have struggled with the Fear of Criticism.  As a young child I learned it was far better to make my mother happy than to receive her criticism. Criticism made me shrink inside, and I did anything I could to avoid it.

Even as an adult, I was hypersensitive to Criticism.  It was such a paralyzing experience for me that I ended up playing small, especially in my professional career. Playing big required taking risks and resulted in me settling for less.

Several years ago I attended an intense Leadership seminar where they exchanged the word Feedback for the word Criticism. During this training there were numerous exercises to practice both giving Feedback and receiving it. It was uncomfortable to go through those exercises, but I learned that Feedback is neither positive nor negative.  It is simply the subjective opinion of the one giving it, and it is always a reflection of that person's own experiences. I get to choose to accept Feedback, or reject it. Because I can control my thoughts, the Fear of Criticism does not have to control me.

Here's how I applied that principle this week:

I use Instagram to find people for my business.  It was an awkward social media platform for me to master, but I pushed through the learning curve, and now I love it. When creating Instagram posts, you have to post pictures that will instantly "grab" people's attention.

The #1 type of post that gets likes and comments is a picture of a Face. Thus, the infamous SELFIE has become a significant way to build thoughtful relationships on IG.

It makes sense. People want to see your Face. They want to know what makes you smile. They want to know what you do in your free time. It’s a window into who you are in the real world.

So I was caught off guard when one of my friends started harshly criticising people who post Selfies. In his opinion it’s a form of Narcissism. True, there are people on IG taking pictures in front of mirrors, flexing their muscles and showing off their six-packs, but that is certainly not me. If anything, it’s been difficult to get over myself and be more transparent on social media.

It was a breakthrough moment for me was when I was able to listen calmly to his words of judgment against Selfies. Instead of getting defensive or shinking inside, I quickly realized, “That's his reality; not mine.”  He was simply giving his Feedback from his limited perspective. I know that I’m not out there on the internet promoting how great I am. Instead, I’m promoting products that make us look better and feel better. I’m introducing people to HOPE so they can get out from under the Debt that enslaves them.

Fear of Criticism. That Ghost is being vanquished as I continue to say my self-talk and stay connected to the Mental Cleanse and the Mentoring for Free system.

Will I continue to take Selfies and post them on Instagram?  You bet.  I want people to see me smiling!
