Chapter 8 Decision

When I hear the word decision I think of big life changing events like whether to buy a house, make a move, join a network marketing company (and which one) or leave a job I hate.  But we make a second kind of decision all day long that is in many ways more momentous than the first kind.  The first kind of decision is more about what action to take, what we choose to do.  The second kind of decision is more about how we choose to be.

For example, imagine that you just joined your company and are all excited about getting started.  You are lucky enough to find Mentoring for Free early on so you decide to become active in the Wednesday Think and Grow Rich calls.  As you participate you realize you have some negative attitudes towards others that are holding you back. 

The more you participate the more you realize that those attitudes are a choice, a decision you make about how you are going to be in relation to other people.  Prior to gaining this awareness the negativity was an unconscious default position that greatly impacted your life and may have caused you to drop out of your company or give up the business all together always wondering why it didn't work out.  You didn't realize you had a choice in the matter.

Now you do and the more aware you become the more you are able to make positive choices about how to be.  For example, when the alarm rings in the morning do you get out of bed and start your morning, or do you hit the snooze button several times, or just turn the alarm off and go back to sleep?  Whatever you choose in that moment will impact your whole day either communicating your intention to go for it, or telling the Universe that you aren't all that serious after all.   

These  ideas apply in all areas of our lives.  Do you eat healthy, or do you get lazy and fill up on junk?  How you decide will have a lot to say about how energetic you are and how well you interact with prospects.  Do you have a schedule and do you stick to it?  Do you take breaks regularly, exercise, think positively about the people you meet on the phone or while standing in line at the grocery store?  

We often talk about being authentic, having a purpose and following it.  To do that requires that we are clear about who we are and what we want to contribute. And to have that kind of clarity means the decisions about how we choose to be, those decisions we make all day, must be in alignment with our purpose.  I believe when we are in alignment the hunches come, we know what we need to do next and the bigger decisions, the ones about what to do, become easier.

One more thing, Hill talks a lot about not allowing ourselves to be influenced by other people.  When we make aware decisions and become more attuned to our hunches, we will no longer allow the opinions of others to hold us back.
