Chapter 15 - How to Outwit the Six Ghosts of Fear.
Hill writes "INDECISION is the seedling of FEAR! Remember this, as you read.
Indecision crystalizes into DOUBT, the two blend and become FEAR! The “blending”
process often is slow. This is one reason why these three enemies are so dangerous.
They germinate and grow without their presence being observed."
I believe the fear of criticism is the one fear that is most prominent in the Network
Marketing industry and as Mr. Hill states "This fear and its effects are fatal to personal
achievement, mainly because this fear destroys initiative, and discourages the use of imagination."
How do we know we have this fear? We could ask ourselves a number of questions.
Do we shy away from sharing our business with our friends and family?
Do we say we are going to go out and share our products with people and then come
home and say we could not find anyone to talk to?
Do we fail to give out our business card when we had an opportunity to do so?
Do we fail to call and follow up with potential clients and customers?
As Mr. Hill states this fear of criticism is fatal and if we don't do something about it
we will fail in our endeavours to build a successful Network Marketing business.
Hill also tells us "The fear of criticism robs man of his initiative, destroys his power
of imagination, limits his individuality, takes away his self reliance, and does him damage
in a hundred other ways."
So how do we get rid of the fear of criticism? How do we outwit this ghost?
We need to do as Michael Dlouhy continues to teach us, and that is, I paraphrase here,
we need to tell ourselves "It is not my business what other people think of me. What is
my business is what I think of myself."
What I think of myself is the important part because when we worry about what others
think, we do not do the things we should do and want to do. We basically are living
the life we think others want us to live even though that is not what we want. Others
do not pay our bills, they do not worry whether we have enough food, whether we have
enough clothing and they do not call us at the end of the month to see if we have
enough to pay the rent or mortgage.
Oh, how foolish we can be!
The solution is to take action. We are the only ones that can change our lives.
We need to play our music, live our music and just do what it is we want to do to accomplish
as our desires and quit worrying about what others think.
Hill also tells us "in order to to protect yourself against negative influences, whether of your
own making, or the result of the activities of negative people around you, recognize that you
have a WILL-POWER, and put it into constant use, until it builds a wall of immunity against
negative influences in your own mind and to deliberately seek the company of people who
influence you to THINK AND ACT FOR YOURSELF."
In other words, we need to take responsibility for our own lives.
