Internet Marketers: What Can Gardening Teach You?
internet marketing, on-line business, patience, free training

In a previous blog I wrote about one of the distractions that you can find when in garden nurseries. For you are usually obliged to walk through a very tempting avenue of plants on your way to your intended purchases and it is easy to forget what it was you came in for. You can end up with anything but your ‘hoped for’ items but gardening has other lessons for internet marketers.

One of my weaknesses is that I can be a bit impatient and sometimes look for quick results but gardening teaches you patience. If you do not have a great deal of gardening knowledge you will need to go to those who do. That may be a green fingered friend or relative, or you may need to turn to some experts for advice.

You have to find out what plants can thrive in your garden. This will depend on the soil, the direction it faces and how much time you have to spend on it. Once you have done your research, you need to take action. This includes spending time preparing the ground, which if your soil is clay based like mine will require some good old fashioned physical effort. You then need to head to the nursery and choose your plants. Once home you follow the instructions and possibly your own intuition, as nothing that grows has read its own label. Then you have no option but to sit back and wait. The lack of choice makes this easier in many ways, as you can hover over the plants all day long but it will not make any difference to their progress.

If you are completely new to internet marketing, it is the equivalent of planting seeds. You are starting right from the beginning and there are no guarantees about results. You can follow the instructions to the letter and without doubt, if you have taken good advice some seeds will thrive but some won’t and you may never know why but it is important that you accept this and concentrate on what does work. It’s just a question of trying things out.

If you are working with plants rather than seeds, it is like being an affiliate marketer for someone else’s product. The plant is already established so it is up to you to keep it healthy and growing. If it doesn’t thrive you can tinker with the plant. You can move it to a different place or improve the soil. Again there are no guarantees and sometimes there is no answer as to why it isn’t thriving. You just have to accept that although others have had success with a particular plant, it might not be the same for you but what is important is that you work out and build on what does work for you and that you concentrate on that.

And like gardening an on-line business is something you may have needed advice on but when you look at your successes, you can know that they are the result of your efforts and there is nothing more satisfying than that.

P.S. If your patience is limited the free training with the SFM can save you time with your marketing skills. Click here:  bit.ly/wP3tAv .

I have lots of gardening experience, but my internet marketing background is limited! So for me, the gardening analogy is just perfect and I really enjoyed this PR! Liked, bumped and tweeted for the other "gardeners" out there! Thanks Lesley!

So many people we have met outside internet marketing have a belief that you are either an overnight success in internet marketing or you fail. Nothing could be further from the truth. If you define success as making a comfortable living many are succeeding. It is all in knowing what is working and what isn't.
