I wanted to share 5 Benefits of this underused fruit -- The Cucumber! Many of you are thinking...wait a minute...are you SURE a Cucumber isn't really a vegetable. Well I took the liberty of looking it up. So here's what I found -- According to botanists, it is a fruit. However, For chef Cucumbers are classified as a vegetable. No matter what cucumbers are to you ...they provide great health benefits to many! So, I encourage you to consume cucumbers raw and add them to your salads to gain most of their health benefits. Now being a woman, the only benefit I always remember hearing about cucumbers was using it on your eyes to reduce puffy eyes.. Let me share with you the real deal on Cucumbers -- Cucumbers contain a vast amount of daily vitamins necessary to good health. One cucumber contains Vitamin B1, Vitamin B2, Vitamin B3, Vitamin B5, Vitamin B6, Folic Acid, Vitamin C, Calcium, Iron, Magnesium, Phosphorus, Potassium and Zinc. Now if you are impressed with this, I will share with you some other AMAZING uses there are! 1. Feeling a bit sluggish after lunch while at work? Pass on the caffeinated drinks and pick up a cucumber. Cucumbers are a good source of B Vitamins and Carbohydrates that can provide that quick pick-me-up that can last for hours. 2. Looking for ways to stop the foggy bathroom mirrors after your shower? Try rubbing a cucumber slice along the mirror. It eliminates fog and provides a soothing, spa-like fragrance. 3. Are you into gardening? Do you have grubs and slugs ruining your planting beds? Stick some slices of cucumber in a small pie tin and you will find your garden FREE of pests all season long. The chemicals in the cucumber react with the aluminum to give off a scent undetectable to humans but drive garden pests crazy and make them flee the area. 4. In the last week of Summer 2012, using cucumber can create the illusion of a cellulite free leg if your headed to the Beach or pool. Just rub 1 or 2 slices of cucumbers along your problem area and in a few mere minutes, the phytochemicals in the cucumber will cause the collagen in your skin to tighten, firming up the outer layer and reducing the visibility of cellulite. This process also works great on wrinkles as well! 5. In need of a sure-fire hangover or headache remedy? Eat a few cucumber slices before bed and you can wake up headache free + refreshed! Cucumbers contain the right amount of sugar, B vitamins and electrolytes that will replenish any lost essential nutrients in the body, thus keeping everything in equilibrium, preventing any hangover or headache. I hope you found these to be great tips for the last days of summer & beyond. To your health!
