An ongoing challenge in our modern, fast paced and often hectic world is to actually take in enough information to make good sense out of it. Taking it in usually means (for me) involving as many of the senses as I can. As an example, The wisteria vines are blooming in our area right now. We drove down a lane and enjoyed seeing the beautiful blossoms. Yet as a motorcyclist I was later traveling down that same lane and was engulfed with the rich aroma of the wisteria blossoms that we had not noticed at all when in our automobile because the windows were up and the air conditioner was on. The blossoms are visually beautiful AND their scent added an entirely different component to enjoying them.
That kind of impact might be felt in what we do online by involving audio or video along with the graphics of a website. Or it may be enhanced with a link for additional information via a capture page or use of hot links embedded in the site. Many sites are now providing immediate chat connections. And, of course, if there is an e-mail address or telephone number then it is possible to request specific additional information. While I attempt to learn as much as I can about the things that interest me, it is easy to get distracted ... and there is just so much time for which a multitude of things are vying for attention. So IF I get a telephone call from someone that has shared information with me THEN that is a level of attention that usually can bring everything else into a sharper and clearer focus. And it usually helps move things in the proper direction more quickly than might have happened otherwise.
The effort to connect via telephone (or voice over internet protocol - Skype/GoogleVoice) is an extra step that requires just a little more coordination, yet often so much more can be accomplished and we get to know each other so much better in the process that it remains one of our most valuable tools.
