If Only, Then

Hopefully people live their lives very few regrets, yet when those regrets occur it too frequently has as a factor that there was an unawareness that left them feeling that "... If Only, Then ..." things could/would have been different.

Awareness it an interesting component in that because we do not what we do not know there is a chance that we would have been interested had we been aware.

How information comes into our sphere of awareness can influence our impression too. THIS is one of those factors that can be responsible for that "if only" regret.  When we seek out information then our mindset is much more action oriented than when the information comes to us unsolicited.  The information itself may be exactly the same yet a promotional effort may have to overcome reluctance and defensiveness that might not be an obstacle when we are actively in pursuit of that same information.

Much of this is simply human nature.  Some of it is cultural.  And some of it stems from our upbringing.  There is an often quoted statistic about only three to five percent of people achieving success (by almost any means that you want to define it).  How can that statistic still be as true in these modern times with so much information so readily available to us?!  Because mindset trumps skill sets.  Unless and until the mindset is conducive then we are unlikely to take action.

W. Steven Brown published Thirteen Fatal Errors Managers Make, And How You Can Avoid Them in 1985.  In that very fine short book he lays out the way most of us manage through our growth and development.  It looks like this:

While the flow is displayed to appear linear it is in actuality more of a circular process where results influence our thoughts and then things tend to spiral in a particular direction.

Information is fuel for our thoughts, so if that information comes to us from a source that our feelings deem to be less positive then the resulting activity might be affected. For example, have you ever heard a commercial or seen an advertisement for a restaurant and more or less discarded it only to then have a friend tell you about a great time they had at that restaurant and NOW you are excited to find a time to go there?

Regardless of anything else you might take away from this information I highly recommend W. Steven Brown's book.  Click HERE for an outline of the chapters in the book.

And another recommendation is that you immediately read my press release posted on 7/11/15 titled, Special Limited Time Offer... Give It The Consideration It Deserves.  Since you must be positioned before midnight tonight, 7/15/15, in order to benefit from this offer your challenge is to seek out the information an act on it so that you will not be tempted to wonder "... if only".

Applied knowledge can be powerful!
