Are They Asking For More

When people see your message are they asking for more information?

An aspect of human nature is that, generally speaking, while people like to buy they do not like to be sold.


That might seem like a bit of a conundrum, yet it is why shopping malls are full of people spending money on a wide variety of things versus the struggles that many people encounter in their efforts to build an online business.


If you have to act like a carnival barker in your attempts to get your message heard then you might like to know there are easier and better ways to move things in the direction you want them to go.  


Even in the shopping malls many people will avoid the kiosk where a salesperson attempts to directly engage you rather than allowing you to initiate the interaction.


When you enter a department store and a salesperson walks up to you and asks, "... can I help you?", what is your immediate reply?  If you are like about 90% of people I ask that question the response is, "No, thanks, I am just looking".  Yet if you get close to the item(s) you are looking for and could use some help in finding a particular size or color or model, then you are still "just looking" but now you are looking for a salesperson... you have reached the point where you want/need more information, and you are now seeking it.  Of course, because the salesperson had his/her feelings hurt when you first rejected that person, it might be difficult for you to find anyone to help at this stage of your shopping.


Advertising tends to work in a somewhat similar way.  We tend to block out commercials and we often thing billboards are a blight on the roadways in our communities, yet when we get to the point where we want/need a product/service THEN we try to recall where we saw information about it.


So, HOW can we find common ground that allows the message to be delivered WHEN the consumer is actually interested?


Staying power can help a lot!  If you are able to keep your message out there long enough then when people are ready for that offer THEN they will hopefully think about you as a good source.  Many online business builders do not have enough patience to maintain an advertising budget and keep their message out there until it finally begins to seep into the memories of enough people to germinate and bear fruit.  More often the online business builder has long since gotten frustrated and decided that the program they are promoting "just does not work".

The reticular activating system (RAS) is responsible for those occasions when you find yourself saying, "... hey, there it is again"!

It probably happens most often with cars, but most any fashion item that we are attracted to can trigger it too.  As a matter of fact, almost anything that you take the time and effort to learn more about can put your subconscious mind into action alerting you when that item is within your field of vision.  

It is one of the ways the conscious and sub-conscious minds synchronize.  You consciously pay attention to something and then your sub-conscious mind subsequently make you more aware of that (or similar) thing.
Maybe you have never paid any attention to hybrid automobiles, yet as we become more environmentally aware and begin to consider the merits of the hybrid technology, all of a sudden you seem to see Toyota Prius models everywhere!
How can you, as an online business builder, tie all of this together in a fashion so that it works equally well for you and your desired audience?  There are certainly more than one answer to that question.  Maintaining a presence in an online community like IBOtoolbox and displaying banner and text ads can be one component.  And IF you tie your press releases together with your banner and text ads THEN you can get more of a synergistic result.  You can do similar things with ads in the search engines such as Google, Bing, Yahoo, etc.; just be sure to control your budget and track your results!
Many people like Facebook as an alternative to the other search engine ads because FB now provides the ability for you to highly refine the audience that sees your message.  You can specify age, geography, gender, interests, and more... and you can budget as little as $5 per day... and you can switch your message on/off as you want. No, I do not get a commission for promoting FB, yet it delivers in ways that few other alternatives can match.
When combined with other online resources like SimpleVoiceBox and SurveyMonkey it is possible for you to get those seeing your message to lean forward and ask you for additional information... NOW you can have a conversation with them instead of just trying to get them to lower their mental defenses.
