Progressive Revelation

Many of us benefit from progressive revelation on a somewhat regular basis.

"Aha Moments" happen when things "click" and we gain clarity or insights.

For some of us the discoveries are not as sudden as someone flipping a light switch and transforming a dark room with a flood of light.  Rather it is more likely incremental steps (even half steps) in the general direction of what we are seeking.

One of my favorite books is The Slight Edge by Jeff Olson because he so clearly presents the power of the things we choose to do ... most of them are easy to do, yet they are equally easy not to do.

This oft quoted proverb does not delve into what has occurred to "ready" the student. It might have involved conscious efforts or a collect of life experiences that have finally brought a person to a place where there is an ability to see things that were not so apparent before.

Lessons learned in one discipline (say, for example, sports) might also have relevance in other aspects of our lives.  By playing a team sport it is possible to gain skills that can contribute to building a successful networking business.  Communication, focus on common goals, a sense of urgency to accomplish definite results by a predetermined deadline, agreeing to abide by terms and conditions for officiating the game.

Often there are overlapping areas of what we do.  And as professional networkers it becomes a part of our lifestyle.  The word "professional" was intentionally inserted in that previous sentence because I have come to conclude that virtually everyone networks, yet only a few of us get paid for it.

Which is one of those progressive revelations.  In talking with an associate earlier he mentioned that he prefers to purchase goods and services from another networker whenever possible.  That is how strong his commitment is to this method of product/service distribution has become.

As the emerging new economy becomes more pervasive there will be more and more people that will agree with my friend that it is desirable to handle as many of our goods and services as possible within our network because that has more of a direct bearing on our personal economy and insulates us to a degree from the volatility of the general economy.

More companies will also begin to operate where they simply have customers; and some of their customers will actually be paid from being a customer based on how good a professional networker that customer also happens to be!
