Hi, My name is Mercutio Gerard Peters, I am 59 years old, married and live with my wife Stella, and college-going son George. Stella works as the Administrator of a private school (Sacred Heart High School) and George is in his second year of graduation. I had a very eventful childhood, as in those days, there always was'nt enough money. I dropped out of school, the year before high school graduation and began working to support myself and the family. I got my first job as an Asst. Steward, in 1975, with The Lady Willingdon Nursing Home, of The Lady Ampthill Nursing Association. UK. (One of the top end hospitals in those times, that catered to the medic/socio needs of the who-is-who in the country). It was here that I realized my cooking talents and people oriented skills under the tutelage of Mr. Leslie Laughlin. From here on there was no looking back. Two years later I got my next break with ITC's first Hotel venture in Madras - The Chola Sheraton. I kept moving, The Ambassador, The Oberoi from 1975 to 1996. 

I decided to take a break from Hotels and started my own venture Peters Enterprises - A Facilities Planning & Catering Company. My most important client was Satyam Computers. As Hyderabad began its growth in the IT and Industrial sectors, Peters Enterprises was'nt able to stand up to the competition and in Oct of 2003 joined GE Capital (Now Genpact) where I continued as Process Developer up until 2013. The decision to quit was easy, because the odd hours and the work pressure was far too demanding when compared to the pay-check. 

It happened just by chance on a Sunday evening when we met up, a friend of mine and a priest. Our conversation moved around the underprivileged youth of the parish, and the proposal to set up an institute to impart 'life-skills' was born.  The priest (a Director of one of the church organisations) offered us the space and infrastructure to start/set up our project, which we accepted, and The School of Catering and Hospitality was born. 

I had the privilege of operating this project from Oct 2014 to July 2015, after which I had to close down operations as we had no funds to continue and the person who supported us was transferred. Allow me to share some of the most wonderful, rewarding and fulfilling experience/s of my life in/with The School of Catering and Hospitality  with you. The first batch was of five students - all underprivileged, Drop-outs commenced in October of 2014. The most endearing part of the project was that we had one student who was  HIV+, another had a hole in the heart, a third was the son of a housemaid. The other two, a boy and a girl made up the batch of five. They were a studious lot and by the end of December, when on a Trainee site visit to the Minerva Grand Hotel, the entire batch (all five) were asked to join, each in their respective areas of specialization. Four signed up and the fifth joined his father's canteen business. 

The second batch was doubled to ten and completed the course in Mar. 2015. This time too all were placed with gainful employment in star hotels.
 
The third batch was sixteen. By this time I we had some rudimentary Audio/Visual equipment that made classes more animated. This batch too had one hundred percent placement with some opting for other service oriented jobs. 

The jewels in the  crown were the four outstanding students who were selected by The Park Hyatt - Hyderabad.

I am confident, that with your assistance, this project will be restarted soon to give the children of tomorrow a better chance at life.  I hope you enjoyed this short testimony of mine as much as I enjoyed reliving it in these pages.
