Do You Have the Right Atititude for Success? success, business, attitude

I just read a blog by Susan Caldwell about the merits of dressing for success. This got me thinking. Suppose we dress for success; but do not do anything else to achieve success. This happens more times than it should.
Rewind about 10 years ago. I used to be a Mary Kay consultant. It is true that I loved the products, but was not that successful in promoting the business. I would consistently go the the workshops and listen to the very successful director give motivational speeches. I would come home and say, "Maura, tomorrow you are going to get to work and do this". I would work for awhile, and get discourage that I hadn't set any appointments.
I remember being told that you should dress for the position you have, rather dress for the position that you want to be in. I hadn't heard that before. I started wearing my own red jacket thinking I was going to be the next awesome star recruiter. Unfortunately, I did not recruit anyone.
The motivation was there, what was missing. I had to be doing something wrong. I did not have the right attitude. I thought that nobody would be interested in the business of doing what I was doing. I talked myself out of success; even though I wanted to achieve success. I thought that I would reach my goals, because after all, I had written them down; so they had to come true, right? Wrong. Very wrong. I thought that I had the right attitude, but I was scared to share my business opportunity with anyone. I was afraid that they would say no, so I never asked anyone. I was my own worst enemy.
I now know that even though you want success, who doesn't want success; it doesn't always come easily. I know that I will make mistakes on the road to success; but I now have the confidence and a more positive attitude that I will get there. You can be the best dressed man or woman in the crowd at your business event; but if your heart isn't in what you are doing; you won't succeed.
How do you measure your success? Are you happy with what you are doing; even if you aren't bringing in the big bucks, yet? If you do have a healthy income, are you helping others achieve what you have? There are many facets to success and it can't be measured simply by what you bottom line is. Do what makes you happy to get up each morning, and you will achieve the success you so richly deserve.
