Be Like Water and Go with the Flow!

As of last night, I had today ALL planned out. I am working on two new self-guided coaching programs (more about that soon!). They're time consuming and a bit technical because they are digital programs, so I really need peace and quiet. HA! The PSE&G guys quickly changed all that. They arrived with a ruckus in my backyard at 7:30 AM and began cutting down any and all tree branches within 25 feet of electrical wires. I have alot of trees! And then, they moved on to the front yard and all my neighbors' yards. It's just a little difficult to concentrate or get any sort of creative work done with all this racket and they are still at it!

My perfect plans were changed due to circumstances beyond my control. What I CAN control, however, is my attitude, by allowing myself to just GO WITH THE FLOW! And that got me to thinking about what it means to GO WITH THE FLOW.

Going with the flow means we GET IN the flow and MOVE along with it. If you think about water, in a river or a stream, it always flows in one direction - FORWARD. It flows over, around and through trees, rocks and other obstacles. Sometimes it has to take a new and different way, but it always moves in the same direction. As long as it keeps flowing, it can clear tiny paths through sand and earth that get deeper and wider over time; allowing a stronger and greater flow. Water travels over the roughest rocks and stones and that constant process eventually makes the rocks and stones smoother to pass over. Or, the pressure breaks them apart into smaller pieces. As long as it keeps flowing, water can break through mountains and come out on the other side. It just takes time, but water is patiently persistent, which allows it to make a way where there seem to be no way. ANYTHING to keep moving forward.

But why? Where is water going? To find and join a larger, greater source and pour itself into it. But water never worries about not getting where it needs go. And it doesn't worry about being all poured out once it reaches its destination. It already knows there's an endless supply as long as it keeps patiently, but persistently, flowing forward. That's pretty profound and sort of spiritual if you really think about it.

As for my plans, I had to put them aside for today. I could've gone to the library to get my work done, but everything I need is here. So that option was out. I couldn't make any phone calls either, because it's way too noisy out there. Or I could've blown off the whole day and spent it down at the beach. That sounds great, and I am certainly not opposed to taking time off, but I have a particular goal set for this month and not much time left to achieve it, so a day at the beach isn't going to get me any closer. Rather than take the day off or get all frustrated and aggravated because my plans were changed due to circumstances beyond my control, I decided to focus on some other things, like paying bills, paperwork, straightening my office, mailing out gift packages to clients and cleaning out my fridge. Now I don't have to do that later in the week because it's already done! Yaay Me! This afternoon, I also decided to try my hand at making a Matcha Tea Latte, which I've been wanting to do, but just haven't had the time. My latte actually turned out quite good. I'll share the recipe with you another time.

Tomorrow, I will revisit my plan for today, provided those PSE&G guys are finished making all that noise with their chainsaws and big trucks. If not, I will be like water and go with the flow. What I need to get done, will get done, and I will reach the goal I've set for myself this month. As I patiently and persistently keep moving forward.

Yours in Happiness, Health & Success,
