How To Get Past The Gatekeeper

The Gatekeeper

The Gatekeeper - “The gatekeeper is a bane to new and experienced marketers. The gatekeeper is essentially a locked door standing between you and the person you need to speak with. If you don't explain yourself in the right way, your message will never be delivered.” heinzmarketing.com

How do you get around this person that will not let you, under any circumstances, talk to the person you need to speak to so that you make your sale? It is a very common problem for us in sales.

Hours upon hours are spent discussing and tactics drawn up. People will spend a whole day trying to figure out how to outsmart the Gatekeeper, but most are very effective at their call to duty.

What can you do? I make the sale to the Gatekeeper. Doing this sets up the final sale for me. If the Gatekeeper sees the value of what you offer and is sold, more than likely the money is in your pocket.

What are you going to say?

When you believe in your product or service it will show. With persistence on your part, this will get their full attention faster than anything else. Talking about the weather is not going to impress them at all or even the introduction of you.

The value of your service or product is why people buy.

On the phone, legally, you have to identify who you are, the name of the company you are representing and why you are calling pretty quickly. Work with this part and get their why in, as to why they need to take a look.

Example: (With extreme confidence) “My name is Micky with CodeBlue For Business. I believe that I can cut your advertising bill by half and increase your sales by 30 to 50%. May I send the information on the program to your  email address?”

OR

“My name is  Micky with CodeBlue For Business. I have a tool that can save your office a whole lot of phone time when you have to notify patients. With this tool, you can notify one or all. May I send the information on the program to your email address?”

Follow Up - If they say yes, set up a follow up time right then for 24 hours later … no more than 48 hours.

Thank you for stopping by!
