What Are You Doing To Keep Your Customers Inside Your Stores Longer?

If your marketing strategy is to do the same thing day in and day out, pretty soon your business follows suit. Specials and sales may draw customers in, but what are you doing to keep them longer inside your store or on your website?

Almost everyone gets into the seasonal change. Have you noticed most people don’t complain at the beginning of a new season? It is usually in the middle or close to the end of a season when you hear the complaints. The summer maybe has been extremely warm or not enough rain, for example.

But, people seem to feel their best at the very start and most want to shop to get ready for the change. Here we are in May and what is everyone thinking? Cookouts, summer picnics, the beach and vacation time. Is your store, blog or website in the same mode?

I'm talking in the decorative way.

People may stay longer if they feel they are on an exoctic cruise or a sunny beach. Sponsoring a car wash is always beneficial to your business and to the organization that you are supporting. There are always students that need money for school trips or church groups that need fundraising.

If you are a clothing retailer, why not let your clients have the option to schedule a personal attendant while shopping and trying on clothes … just like in the movies?

You could charge them in various ways. I know when I take my older Granddaughters shopping, I would use a service like that. Why? Because it would be a memorable experience for them.

“But, I am an internet marketer so it would do me no good to sponsor anything local

I hear it all of the time. Wrong. That kind of mentality will keep you broke. Participate with a local business and start getting your name out there. Go to the 4-H fairs and bid on those animals. When you get the animal, give it right back to the participant to sell it again. Co Sponsor local events.

But, back to the business and keeping your customers longer.

Some of you may remember Blue Light Specials, where every hour one would be announced. This was a good strategy because a lot of people would stay all day. If you don’t want to do it all day? Then do it for the afternoon, or tie it in with your Happy Hour.

If you are a restaurant, schedule a bingo for Seniors. An after school coloring contest for kids. Retail store, you could create a corner with tables and chairs. Have free coffee or tea. With some reading material scattered around.

In the evenings, there is poetry reading, book discussions, Checkers or Scrabble. A lot of musicians will play for free just for the exposure. Give away some cool looking hats or sunglasses for kids.

Think colors. There is a reason why a major retailer is decked out in blue.

Be sure to remember to look at your store from a customers point of view. For drive bys, what stands out about your business? For those pulling in? Are those doors clean they are reaching for? Those small details that are priceless and memorable.

Be creative and have some fun!

Thank you for stopping by!
