Living in an age of technological revolution brought on by what I call, The Age Of Convenience, where the “On Demand Society” now sets the rules of engagement for all businesses.

Offline or online, if you call yourself an entrepreneur, a business owner. an online marketer, a distributor, an affiliate … whatever you may choose to call yourself, if you are not engaged with the “On Demand Society” your demise is inevitable.

Some of you have become experts at being blind as to what is clearly in front of you and to those doing so today ... will continue doing so tomorrow.

Others may call themselves entrepreneurs, but the true entrepreneur is already there in place and either open for business or perched and ready to fly. The entrepreneur is not interested in avoiding change and waiting to act, rather they define the change and react.

Depending on what you read, the retailers closings are still ongoing in 2019. Just April 12th, a month ago, The New York Times headline was, “U.S. Retail Stores’ Planned Closings Already Exceed 2018 Total”

This news coming after 5000 retail stores closing in 2017 and over 3600 in 2018. The trend is expected to continue. Imagine the impact to suppliers and manufacturers and jobs that no one is talking about.

Yet …

“The small business community feels their local and U.S. economy are strong. This according to the annual Small Business Pulse Survey from SunTrust. But only 49% of the respondents in the survey said they have a clearly stated plan for business growth.”

In 2017, this figure was an even 50/50 split and puts me in mind of a Benjamin Franklin quote, “By failing to prepare, you are preparing to fail” and stands true a century later.

As always, there are many ways to look at current events and the projected trends but it all comes down to disadvantages or advantages and how we react or don’t react.

In the mix of things is the reality of what is coming and the consequences of our actions of today. Either way, “The Rules Of Engagement” have changed
