I believe that success or failure is more impacted by other factors, i.e. education, community, gender, network, wealth, family, than ones mental aptitude. If you can remember the first time you attempted to walk, I will bet that you were unsuccessful. Reason being was that you did not have the necessary tools. At that point in time, your limbs were not strong enough for you to stand; however, you parents could have held your hands allowing you to stumble along. Similarly, as an individual delving into business as an entrepreneur it is very important to have access to the tools and resources. For instance, it is a known fact many start-up come to the table without enough economical-capital leading to many a problem. In addition, such entrepreneur does not have the know-how and connection to wherein he/she can get funding from a banking institution. This lack of funding can also lead to a short fall in advertising dollars, inability to buy or produce the product or at least connect with ones customers.
Another factor is ones social-capital. Who know you? Are you associated to someone or group who can help you or direct you to where you can get help. Even though there be no empirical evidence, it is my belief that the playing field is level relative to many an entrepreneur mental aptitude or capacity to work-hard. Therefore, what is lacking is ones ability or inability to access the tools and resources that will make a person a successful in business.
