Do Safelists Really work ?

There are many people who say that safelists are a waste of time, money, and email space. They are right of course... for them. The reason there are some, no wait, many that make the above claims is because they don't know how to use them. They are too busy trying to sell you on whatever business they are involved with. And they wonder why they don't make any money!!!

Now let's flip the coin and talk about the people that swear by them. They know something about safelists and how to use them that the ones that think they are useless don't.

You see, the secret is that safelists are good for only one thing. And that is to drive traffic to your squeeze or landing page. A squeeze page is a mini sales page with an opt-in form on it. It is designed for the sole purpose of getting the visitor to give you their name and email address. 99% of the time this will only happen if you are offering something of value for Free to your visitor. Some examples can be free ebooks, software or email series of tips related to the reason they came to your site in the first place.

Once you get their contact information, you can have your autoresponder do the rest of the work for you. Well, I hope this solves your prejudice about safelists and opened your eyes to a new source of optins/subscribers to help you grow your business. Just remember to use a compelling subject line to get them to open the email and an even more compelling message to get them to visit your site. Also, persistency and consistency is the key to succeed in anything. Just remember to do a little bit each day to help you reach your goals. All the best in your success.

Safelists does work if you stick with top 15 of them & consistently post your solos or member mailers.

I have found these tips helpful to boost my conversions.

1. Eye-catching Headline.
2. Posting the ad at the correct time zone. ( If you are targeting at the Eastern time Zone countries, your ads should ideally be published at 5 pm of eastern time zone)
3. Ad a P.S ( At the end of each mail) since this will appear just above the credit link many will read that.
4. Do not waste time with new & small safelists
5. Use HTML ads wherever possible.

The trick to building any home business is to have leads, and safelists appear to offer a free and easy solution. Simply join and you can:

1) Usually get credits to immediately e-mail 1000 or more people. With a typical 2-3% click-through rate (CTR), this is likely to give you at least 20-30 people (per 1000 e-mails) looking at your offer.

2) Start receiving e-mails; when you click on them, you'll earn more credits for sending out future e-mails to other members at no cost. (Time is your only cost.)

3) Based on the above CTR, you're likely to get ONE person to look at your offer for every 2-3 clicks you make. Since you usually need to spend 10 to 15 seconds on a page to get credit, you'll spend 30 seconds to one minute on average to get ONE PERSON to look at your offer.

Many people I know spend hours working their network marketing programs (for instance) and struggle to ever get people really looking at what they offer. So this seems like a great value. But as you know, it's only worth it if you get results. So can you get good results with safelists?

What's the Problem with Safelists?

If everyone is joining a safelist because they want to SELL something, then who on earth is going to buy? At the same time ... usually safelists are full of people wanting to earn an income online, so this is pretty targeted if you're trying to reach those people.

How do you resolve these differences? How do you work with the right audience (wanting to earn online) not wanting to buy?

Simple. DON'T SELL. As always, marketing is about building a relationship, and with safelists, sending an e-mail to random people you don't know isn't marketing (building a relationship) ... unless you MAKE it about marketing. And that's what you need to do.

I used to think that safelists were useless ... until I started use them to OFFER VALUE. Once I did this, I had two new people join a free program in my first mailing.

What to Offer to Make Safelists Work

To make a safelist work, you need to think of it as a party, where you're bumping into a whole bunch of people. Would you be trying to sell something to each person you bumped into? I hope not, and I doubt it. If you did, you'd alienate a lot of people and be lucky if you ever made a sale.

Instead, you would introduce yourself, get to know people, and then share things that you felt might be of interest to them. If they're into sports, you might talk sports with them. If you both have kids, you might exchange stories. And if you discovered that they were looking for something you had an answer to, then and only then would it make sense for you to talk about a product or service.

In the case of safelists, you don't have the chance to HEAR from the other person. It's a one-sided conversation. But you do know something: this other person is probably interested to make money online.

They have NOT said that they're interested to buy anything related to your program. They've said that they want to make money online. So your job as a true marketer is to say, "I can help you with that." You're not selling them something -- you're offering them a solution. And hopefully a free one (initially).

This is why I so strongly encourage you to build a series of e-mails into an autoresponder service. (I strongly recommend Rocket Responder -- a great value and the easiest system I've found.) In these e-mails (which will be sent automatically to someone over time), you can introduce yourself as a real person AND as an expert in some area that can help others. You do this WITHOUT selling something, and hopefully you're giving tips that not only prove your expertise but also help to establish a valuable relationship.

After you've set up the relationship, then you can start inviting people to know about the programs you're involved with. And, without PUSHING them into the program, you can INVITE them in with the understanding that you will use your expertise (or connections, etc.) to help them succeed.

When you take this kind of LONG-TERM approach to safelists, you're much more likely to enjoy success with them. Don't sell -- give. Establish relationships and, by offering a free e-mail course or ebook or video or whatever ... move people from the safelist over to your OWN e-mail list so you can reach them as often as needed.

What Safelist System Should You Use?

At least 4 I'm aware of are owned by the same people, and are probably used by many of the same people. These include ListBonus (which I'm using with good results); Bweeble (pretty nice interface); ListJoe; and ListAdventure. Because of this, I didn't join them all. I'm also sometimes active with AdChiever.

So that you don't get overwhelmed by e-mails, I recommend picking just 1-3 programs. You won't want to click on more e-mails than that for building credits.

Many systems recommend that you get a new e-mail address (typically Gmail) so that you don't flood your current inbox. I don't. I actually use my REAL e-mail address, because I can FILTER those e-mails into separate folders and then review them when I want ... without having to switch my e-mail account.

On a final note, you can upgrade in most systems and then e-mail other members WITHOUT having to click on e-mails. Read on for details.

Should You PAY (Upgrade) to Use a Safelist?

I truly believe this should be based on the individual. Safelists are NOT designed as a sudden home run (nor is any marketing system), no matter how appealing the numbers might be. Someone who is hard up for money should NOT bank their every dollar on this solution. For those with tight budgets, I recommend trying out a couple of safelist systems and putting in the time to "earn" credits by clicking on e-mails.

Those marketers who have a good lead capture page in place, giving people reason to sign up for the marketer's e-mail list (free e-book, free e-course, etc.) are probably best prepared to succeed with a safelist. If that's you and you're in a position to invest in a safelist, try it. There's something to be said for testing, learning, and then having this valuable knowledge to pass along to others who join your team.

Right now I am ONLY upgraded in two programs:

Speedy Traffic Mailer -- because I got in as a Founder at $107 per year (click here to see if those positions are still available), which let me mail every 8 hours, gave me tons of solo mails, text ads, banner ads, etc. If you're going to invest, I recommend grabbing one of their options while it's still growing so you can lock in a super low rate (even if the Founder option is no longer available).

Given my early results, I don't expect to need a refund, and encourage you to give it a try yourself.

Regardless of which system you choose to upgrade in, I recommend starting out free or just upgrading ONE system until you get safelists working for you. Then you can upgrade in more if you want to accelerate your results.
