My WordPress Blog at Nove-Noga

I just finished cleaning up the Pending Comments on Nove-Noga the Blog. I had not realized how far behind I was. It seems that I had not Moderated my comments for several months. There were twenty-nine hundred (2900) comments in the queue waiting for me to pass judgment. My apologies if yours was one of those waiting. I will put this on my daily To-Do list so that I will not get so far behind.

I learned quite a bit during my extensive cleanup up effort. After the first hundred or so, it was very tempting to trash the balance but every now and then I discovered one that was at least acceptable. Unfortunately, there is a school of marketing out there that says the “right way” to get your message out is to slap anything that comes to mind in the comments section and squeeze in all the links you can.

I am sorry. That school is Wrong. At IBO Toolbox, we are protected from spammy comments because you are only allowed to include links on comments for which you are the author. There were no such blocks in my WordPress Blog at Nove-Noga.

After dealing with so many comments, I considered applying Akismet to my blog comments. Unfortunately, Akismet is only free on personal blogs and this one is technically for business. Besides, if I do the moderation, I get to see who among my IBO Friends and Associates have taken the time to Read and Comment on my posts. As I will also be checking all the Backlinks to see what they have to offer, I will also be looking for opportunities to Read and Comment.

I learned that part of the Akismet filter is that it limits you to two links in any comment. This sounds like a good indication of what might or might not be spam. In the process of cleaning and updating my WordPress Blog at Nove-Noga, I discovered that the new tools are stripping out all of the extra links. This brings me back to where I started with this post.

We, as internet marketers, all want as many quality backlinks as we can create. It doesn’t do us any good to have a bunch of trash links on our comment section and it does no good to you to create links to trashed out blogs. Now, I will start by saying that the spam that I threw out did not appear to be from any of my IBO Friends and Associates. These were largely from another group of marketers entirely. (For reasons I do not understand, this blog is big in Brazil. Huh?)

So, what should you do to get your comments passed? 1) Just like at IBO Toolbox, you should take the time to Read the post before you make a Relevant Comment. Pats on the back are good but honest dialog may be more useful to the community at large. 2) You should make sure that your primary link goes to a valid address. If your future is uncertain, consider the possible uses of an IBO Alias to create eternally valid links. And, 3) don’t bother to hide your links in the text of your comments. The chances are that the filters and moderators will not let it through anyway.

In the future, I will be more diligent about updating the posts at my WordPress Blog at Nove-Noga. In part because that is where I will be posting my future Click-by-Click GIMP Instructionals. Due to the repetitive nature of such postings, I need to place them in an environment that I can control. Those of you interested in the GIMP tool for your Graphics work are Very Welcome to comment. I welcome any added insight and information that you may provide.
