Note: This is the 7th in the “GetStarted” Sequence. Setting up your profiles for Google, MSN and Yahoo is a good early step in building your Personal Brand. Proper preparation can make the actual setup more painless.

*Note: While I understood the necessity of building my own brand from the very beginning of my internet marketing adventure, I did not really begin learning the details of personal branding until I met Dennis Thorgesen of Lisech eMarketing at IBO Toolbox. The Task:
Setting up profiles for Google, MSN and Yahoo.
Because Google automatically starts a Google Plus page for you, that is where you should begin setting up your Google, MSN and Yahoo Profiles. Your Google + page is an incredibly powerful resource. You will be linking your webpages and your other Social Media accounts here as well as listing any place where you publish.

Review The Plan - You should review The Plan daily:
Once more, we turn to The Plan in your OneNote notebook. After reviewing and perhaps adding to your Why, Goals, and Processes, go to your Theme page. You should already have made notes on the following questions. I have rearranged them slightly.

Theme: What is the Theme of your Online Efforts?
Brand Identity: What is your Brand Name?
Slogan/Catch Phrase: Do you have a Slogan or Catch Phrase?
Color Scheme: What is your Color Scheme?
Logo: Are you using a Logo? Do you have images?

To these we will add:
Profile Pictures: What is the location and Name in your computer?
Square: 200x200 is perfect for IBO. 1200x1200 is what I used for Google.

Cover Pages: Location and Name in your computer.
Google Cover Image Sizes
Minimum: 480×270
Double Size: 960×540
Double-Double: 1920×1080 Recommended.

*NB: Keep track of these images. Hunting them up later is a pain in the #%&&.*

For your Profile Pictures, you will want to use your own pictures. Even if you are promoting a Brand, people tend to deal with people. This is part of building your Brand Identity. I recommend that you choose one image in the beginning to use in all your efforts. You can modify it and use different aspects of it but continuity is very important.

If you want people to closely associate you with your Logo and/or business, think of ways to combine them into one image. If you are seeing this on IBO Toolbox, just look at my Profile Image for IBO. GIMP is very useful for creating images of this type.

For images to be used on the Internet, I would first recommend pictures that you have taken yourself. Images on the web may be subject to copyright laws that you do not want to break. One good source for images is Flickr. Many of the images are available for use under a Creative Commons license. Be sure to follow the rules for any that you use. *-*-*Note: For step by step instructions for creating and modifying the images you need, try the GIMP Tutorial Listing at Nove-Noga. GIMP is the GNU Image Manipulation Program. (GNU is said to mean GNU’s Not Unix.) It is a great *Free tool for the manipulation of images.

GIMP is a great tool for resizing images to what you need and it makes it easy to add text. As you can see on my site, there is no real artwork. That will come later. For now, we want to begin to set the tone of your future efforts.*-*-*

Tools at the ready: OneNote open to Setups.

To prepare for the Setup, Copy the “Preparation Information for Google” from below and add it to your eMail/Google page in the Setups section of your OneNote. Use it to prepare your posts. This is a lot better than having to come up with it on the fly.

Employment – Share as much as you feel comfortable with. Remember this is public?

Schools - What schools have you attended. (The School of Hard Knocks?)?
Course of study – Course name or description.
Starting and Ending years.

Basic Information:
Gender – Not many options here.
Looking for – The world is matchmaking. Be careful what you ask for.
It shows Friends, Dating, A relationship and for Other I added Networking.
Birthday – Do you like birthday wishes from the world?
Other names – be careful here. Scammers can use this information for nefarious ends.

Where have you lived and do you want to list them all?
Enter City Names.

Choose your public information carefully. *Note: Work and Home need to be different Emails.
