Hug the people you love. Cherish your loved ones. This year give the gift of gratitude to each family member and dear friend—tell each of them how much they mean to you! Make them feel special, because they are each a one of a kind model and uniquely beautiful just the way they are! Its a priceless gift! Spread the love this Christmas!! Happy Holidays~Merry Christmas~Happy Hanukkah~Wishing you Peace, Joy, and Love Always! _____________________________________________ Tip #3 Move everyday! I was told by multiple doctors that my degenerative disk disease would put me in a wheelchair before age 50. I kept hearing what I couldn’t do until I was pretty much down to no options and home bound bed rest. I listened….. at first. Then in 2010, I called it my year of CAN. I went on a quest to find out what I could do. I started moving each day in my chair and in my bed. When I started I could barely lift my legs or my arms for 3-5 seconds! It was so hard and hurt so much that I just cried for the first few days, but I kept on doing little moves each day and the pain got better by day 3. I gradually added a few seconds a little each week. After one year, I was bicycling with my legs in my chair while I watched TV. I kept reading that exercise was great in little spurts peppered in throughout your day. So I was working up to 3, 10 minute sessions each day. I finally reached that goal this summer 2012! My neurologist’s chart shows I have lost 69lbs since 2010. I want all of you to be very careful. I do NOT want anyone hurt, but find a way to move every day. When you stand in front of the microwave and wait for food to heat, you can move. When you sit in a shower chair, you can move. When you sit in a wheelchair, you can move. Even if its only your toes, even if its only wiggling your fingers, even if its only slow deep breathing—YOU CAN DO IT! My research has shown that we start to lose muscle in as little as 3 days with no use. This muscle loss/atrophy causes weakness in our entire bodies and leads to more pain, balance issues and falls. Go slow and do NOT push yourself too hard. Also, you can track your progress with journaling. This can be a huge boost for your self-esteem and exercise is proven to combat depression! ____________________________________________ Tip #4 Be good to yourself! You all know I am not feeling well today so I thought it was the perfect time to remind us all to keep #1 in mind—that’s you! We all take care of our families/kids/friends/parents/the best we can, but do you take care of yourself the same way? If not, start today! You are worth it!
