There is a certain awkwardness to a lot of home based business owners these days. It stems from many things like being new in the business or never having spoken to strangers before. Much of it fades away after the first year or so, that is if you stay in the business. It does get confusing hearing that you’re not really selling, you’re sharing. Or its all about relationships and getting people to like and trust you. You know you’re supposed to be doing money producing activity but what exactly is that activity? Its being in service to others.
Has anyone ever appeared in your life and unexpectedly helped you in a way you couldn’t have foreseen? There are people in everyone’s life that they can always count on to help them. Unfortunately, the vast majority have to be paid, like the dentist, doctor, car repair person etc. If someone comes along and just helps you because that’s what they do, wouldn’t that mean a little more to you than writing your furnace repairman a check? Out here in online marketing land it’s a little like the “wild west”. If people don’t help people, people just don’t last.
The problem is, it has to be genuine. If you go out and help someone in hopes of getting a reward, that makes you just another paid worker. You have to sincerely want to help others for the sake of simply helping. That may mean letting go of some long held negative beliefs like, “what’s that guy done for me” or “ nice guys finish last”. Most people don’t even know they aspire to that kind of thinking unless they carefully examine their motivation for their actions. If you genuinely help others out of pure caring motivation, they will sense it and like and trust you for it.
What if a huge percentage of marketers suddenly adopted this form of behavior out in the marketplace? Would we not be more like the crew of a huge ship, everyone chipping in to help each other, (and not just your own downline).
