This lesson from a Course in Miracles (ACIM) really stuck with me today:

“The light of the world brings peace to every mind through my forgiveness.”

Wow, “through my forgiveness,” not someone else’s but through my own, I can bring peace and light through my power of forgiveness.

Forgiveness is such a loaded and often such a misunderstood word. When we forgive, we free ourselves, not others; we bring peace to not only ourselves but others as well. We forgive because at the core of who we are is love. I believe we were created to learn how to live in and give love. What if our true purpose is to love, to express love in our own individualized and personal ways through our work, our friends, our families and our communities?

The course reads:

“How holy are you who have the power to bring peace to every mind! How blessed are you who can learn to recognize the means for letting this be done through you! What purpose could you have that would bring you greater happiness?”

“You are indeed the light of the world with such a function.”

ACIM asks us to meditate on the following:

“The light of the world brings peace to every mind through my forgiveness. I am the means God has appointed for the salvation of the world.”

Today, I start with me.

I forgive myself for all things that I have berated myself for, for not being perfect, for procrastinating, for holding myself to standards that I dare not hold for others.

I forgive myself for the ultimate “I forgive but I don’t forget" mantra. I allow myself to release those grievances and trespasses and move forward. I forgive because I am indeed the light of the world, tasked with bringing peace to the world through forgiveness.
