What Medical Cannabis Advocates Really Want

Medical Marijuana

When most people think about advocates for the legalization of cannabis, they likely imagine tie-dye-wearing stoners just looking to get high without the hassle of the man.

This is the furthest thing from the truth.

Listed below are some of the top concerns that cannabis legalization advocates, such as myself, have, along with what changes we are looking for moving forward. I have linked each point to some important conerstone articles on the matter.

Proper Access

When the feds finally roll out their plan to legalize marijuana, advocates want to see cannabis treated like the medicine that it is, with full access for the adults that want it. At the moment, confusion abounds, and doctors don't want to play gatekeeper.

Time to loosen the restrictions!

Medical Reasearch

Medical marijuana has been available in Canada for over a decade, but there’s a surprising lack of scientific research to guide doctors and patients. We want proper labelling and standards.

Time to invest in thorough research!

Personal liberty

The principle of freedom and liberty states that all people have a right to be free - to make choices regarding their actions and behavior so long as it doesn't harm someone else.

Marijuana Law

Thomas Jefferson said, "Rightful liberty is unobstructed action according to our will within limits drawn around us by the equal rights of others. I do not add “within the limits of the law” because law is often but the tyrant’s will, and always so when it violates the rights of the individual."

We are adults, and cannabis is for adults. Time to recognize this!

Follow The Debate: Does the concept of fundamental liberty force the legalization of medical marijuana?

Free enterprise

Marijuana advocates know that governemnt restrictions will profoundly influence the availability and price of legal marijuana, and in turn, whether the black market fizzles out or continues to thrive.

This is a golden opportunity. Time for business to profit!

Participation in the process:

We don’t want the cannabis users, and the people who have built this community, to be left out of the legalization process moving forward.

Time to listen to the people!
