When people first hear about multi-level marketing, or MLM, they think it sounds pretty straightforward.
You join and quickly build your downline, then they do the same - everyone sells a few things and you receive great commissions. There's no such beast as an easy business that does not require work. MLM, or multi-level marketing, can be complicated, and there is quite a bit to it. There's no reason why you cannot achieve in MLM, if you have the willingness to work. MLM is one of the more popular business models for internet marketers to follow.
First thing to always do: With every lead you get always follow-up after first contact. Some people will express the feeling to think about it, then naturally you'll just give them some time to decide. It's fine to give them two days, roughly, to let them think before you talk to them again. It's extremely common with the sales industry that the sale is made because the seller followed-up with the buyer.
It's best to realize right now that you'll have to spend some money on your business. There are very useful tools and resources you will want to buy, but one thing is that paying a company to be able to 'join' them as an affiliate MLM marketer should not be one of them. So, for expenses, you'll need to pay for marketing materials, any advertising, various admin related supplies you'll need, etc. The good thing about doing business on the web is that the usual business expenses don't exist, or else they are much, much lower. Ok, it's always best to at least have some awareness of what will come down the road. So it will help you later if you can start saving for those special times when you'll need to spend for your business.
Always treat your MLM business as a real business. It will help you a lot to work with your recruiter, and devise a business and marketing plan of attack. If you can do that plus write down daily goals, then you'll accomplish much more and have more focus. However, it's very important to set doable goals, and always hold your self accountable to your deadlines. Never allow yourself to get lazy and miss your targets because it can become contagious and a habit. You will not get to where you want to be unless you're willing to work hard at it.
You'll find that people have their own reasons for saying, no, and you'll never know what the reason is. So make every effort to avoid taking it as a personal judgement against you. It's not about you. It is the product or the idea of being part of a multi level marketing team. So don't worry about it, and keep moving forward. You absolutely are able to make very serious money with MLM if it's done correctly and with the right perspective. There's a terrible perception that it's a just a get-rich-quick scheme, or scam. Sometimes that impression can seem to be true, in some cases. For the most part, though, MLM is a legitimate business opportunity.
It's totally possible to be successful if you treat it like a genuine and real business and work hard to succeed.

 | | Rapid follow up on the first contact - I think - is absolutely essential. When people are looking at business opportunities they get inundated with so much information that they can easily forget. Worse still is you can make the initial contact and without rapid follow up your prospect ends up in someone else's' downline. Great points. |
