"There is so much money to be made in the fitness industry, that the marketers have inundated the media channels with bogus advice.
Unfortunately, this has created a situation where you may not even know what the basic principles of getting fit are. Thus, it's essential that you go back in time a little and learn the time and tested principles.
So here is a review of basic workout advice that works:
1. To burn fat activate a lot of muscle and use a lot of weight: Too many fitness establishments have gone the flashy gadget route and have their clients doing myriad exercises on bosu balls and other stability devices. While these have merit, they are not the best way to lose fat.
2. Squats still reign supreme: There is endless argument about which exercise is the best for muscle mass or weight gain. And the truth is that squats are still the best option here. The only caveat is if you have back pain. In this case, simply do front squats.
3. Avoid shoulder pressing if there is any pain: Hurting your shoulder because you absolutely have to press is a surefire way to end your fitness career. And the only way to get back on track will be with surgery. Having said that, surgically altered shoulders are never the same.
4. Best way to get results: Intensity is still the number one way to get faster results. While some exercise are more effective than others, intensity (i.e., hard work) is still the path to rapid change. So make sure to sprinkle your workouts with super sets, drop sets and ascending sets.
5. Early workouts still reign supreme: I guess there is some truth behind the saying, "the early bird gets the worm." Although simplistic, the kernel of truth is that early workouts energize you the most and create the highest caloric burn.
Now, more than ever, it's vitally important to get back to the solid science of weight loss. You have to ignore all the hype and stick to the basic, time and research-tested principles for maximum effect. And remember that above all else, taking action is still the rate limiting factor!"
